The year 2022 has been notorious for high-profile box office smashes, such as Vikram and Maniratnam's star-studded "Ponniyin Selvan." Valimai and Beast, starring two of Kollywood's biggest stars, Ajith and Vijay, respectively, bombed at the crictis' reviews despite receiving good collection in Box Office  . In no way do low ticket sales indicate a movie's lackluster performance, and it's never fun to celebrate a flop, here is the list of all the biggest of 2022's box office bombs in an unexpected turn.

Mahaan by Karthik Subburaj:

Release: 10 February 2022

The story follows Gandhi Mahaan, a middle-aged teacher who is abandoned by his family and goes on a quest for self-discovery. Though he faces many obstacles on his way to becoming a proud billionaire, he does so. This Vikram-starrer drama came as a total surprise from the director of Iravi, Pizza, and Jigarthanda. Under the Seven Screen Studio banner, produced by S. S. Lalit Kumar. In addition to Vikram, Simran, Dhruv Vikram, and Bobby Simha, the film also features Sananth, Vettai Muthukumar, Deepak Paramesh, and Aadukalam Naren.

Valimai by H.Vinoth:

Release: 24 February 2022

Box Office: 155-234 crores

This film marked the second collaboration between Ajith, Vinoth and Kapoor after Nerkonda Paarvai (2019). Valimai opened to mixed reviews from critics.

Ajith's character, ACP Arjun, is a people-oriented law enforcement official with a spotless record came to serious game  the police in Chennai have failed terribly at tracking down a notorious biker gang that recruits young people who are otherwise without work to commit serious crimes like robbery, drug trafficking, and contract killing. Arj un takes up the case and learns more about the gang's methods and the people behind the scenes, the story then culminates in a showdown between Ajith and Karthikeya, the ringleader of the criminal gang.

Maaran by Karthick Naren:

Release: 11 March 2022

On March 11, 2022, Maaran became available to stream exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar. While the film's script, plot, writing, and direction were panned by critics and audiences alike, Dhanush's performance, as well as the film's cinematography, music, and background score, were met with mixed reviews. Edited by Prasanna G. K. and featuring cinematography by Vivekanand Santhosham and music by G. V. Prakash Kumar. The plot of the film revolves around an honest journalist named Mathimaaaran who uncovers a political fraud perpetrated by a man named Pazhani. This not only causes problems for his professional life, but also puts his loved ones in danger.

Beast by Nelson Dilipkumar:

Release : 13 April 2022

Box Office: 236-250 crores

Nelson, who has made a name for himself with a string of original and entertaining films like Kolamavu Kokila and Doctor, takes a huge risk by working with Vijay, who is unquestionably one of the biggest stars in the country. The song "Halamithi Habibo" helped the film become popular, but the movie itself was not well received by critics, despite the fact that it made a respectable sum at the box office. The film follows former RAW agent Veera as he confronts his fears after being taken hostage in a shopping mall by a terrorist organisation that is demanding the release of their captured leader.

Liger by Puri Jagannadh:

Release: 25 August 2022

Box Office: 60 crores

The plot of the movie centres on a promising young mixed martial arts fighter who puts in a lot of work in order to advance in the sport. The kidnapping of his lover, however, complicates his plans. In spite of a cameo appearance by Mike Tyson, the film was panned by critics. Dharma Productions and Puri Connects co-produced the film, which was shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu. Key roles are played by Ananya Panday, Ramya Krishna, and Ronit Roy, with Vijay Deverakonda in the title role as an MMA fighter.

Cobra by Ajay Gnanamuthu:

Release: 31 August 2022

Box Office: 40 crores

After Mahaan, this is the Vikram's second unfavourable venture. The film's running time was a major factor in the film's failure at the box office and with critics, who generally had negative things to say about the film and complained about its slow pace. The film primes on Mathi, a brilliant mathematician, uses his alias, Cobra, to commit cunning robberies. Starring Irfan Pathan, Srinidhi Shetty, Roshan Mathew, K. S. Ravikumar, Anandaraj, Robo Shankar, Miya George, Mirnalini Ravi, Sarjano Khalid, and Meenakshi Govindarajan, the film also features Vikram in a dual role.

Prince by Anudeep KV:

Release: 21 October 2022

Box Office: 30 crores

The movie opened opposite Karthi's Sardar. Anbu (Sivakarthikeyan), a teacher in Pondicherry, falls in love with Jessica (Maria), a British national who also teaches English at the same school. A comedic chain of blunders and misfortunes is precipitated by their inability to communicate across cultural boundaries and the fierce opposition they face from locals. Although it was the actor's first bilingual project with a Telegu director, audiences were unimpressed by the film.
