The film Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, has been embroiled in controversies ever since its announcement. The film, which is inspired by the Hindu epic Ramayana, has faced objections from various groups for its depiction of Lord Ram, Lakshman, Sita and Ravana.

Earlier the film's teaser, poster and trailer have all sparked outrage and criticism from some Hindu groups, political leaders, and even the neighbouring country of Nepal. Now the All India Cine Workers Association wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to "stop screening the movie and immediately order a ban of Adipurush screening in the theatres and OTT platforms in the future" . They claimed that the film ridiculed Hindu society and mocked Hinduism.

In a official statement requesting the film ban, they wrote, "This movie’s screenplay and dialogues are clearly defaming the image of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman. Adipurush's movie is hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and Sanatan Dharm. Prabhu Sri Ram is a god for everyone in India and no matter what religious faith one comes from, this movie depicts Lord Ram and even Raavan who looks like a character of a video game, with dialogues hurting every Indian in the country and across the globe,

"Actor Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan shouldn't have been part of such a disgraceful movie ever made in the history of Indian Cinema. Adipurush is a complete disaster of our faith in Shri Ram and Ramayan."

The film's director Om Raut had announced that a seat will be reserved for Lord Hanuman in every screening of the film.  The film also ran into trouble in Nepal, where it was banned by the Kathmandu City Mayor Balendra Shah. The mayor objected to a dialogue in the film that calls Sita as the daughter of India.

According to the mayor, Sita was born in Janakpur, which is located in modern-day Nepal. However, many believe that she was born in Bihar. The mayor demanded that the dialogue be removed from the film not only in Nepal but also in India. He also prohibited the screening of any Indian film in Kathmandu until the objectionable parts are removed from Adipurush.

Adipurush, which was released on June 16, 2023, despite this back to back stir, the film has performing decent at the box office, as it collected over 340 crores after its three days of run. But the film has failed to impress the critics and major audiences. The film has been called a hotch-potch of movies of the past and a mockery of Ramayana.
