ADMK's political outreach in Delhi: EPS reveals what they discussed with PM Modi!

Three months after the Tamil Nadu assembly polls in which the ADMK has occupied the legislative assembly as the Opposition party, the senior ADMK leaders had held a political outreach in Delhi on Monday by rising the speculations of the agenda of the trip to the national capital. ADMK leaders Edappadi Palaniswami, O Panneerselvam, SP Velumani, Manoj Pandian, and Dhalavai Sundaram had visited Delhi with the well-packed itinerary.

Edappadi Palaniswami and Panneerselvam had gone to Delhi on Sunday on separate flights and stayed at the Tamil Nadu House in the national capital. Their trip was planned to earn the affirmation of support from the BJP Central leadership -particularly from Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the party has been stumbled by the Tamil Nadu BJP's assertion that it is the only opposition to DMK in the state and with VK Sasikala's efforts for a political resurgence.

Their Delhi visit has come days after the DMK government raided the residence of senior ADMK leader MR Vijayabaskar, which the ADMK leaders claimed was a retaliatory action carried out by the DMK. The ADMK leaders had planned to meet the Prime Minister and Central BJP leaders to discuss the recent political developments in the state and they also had carried a pile of what they had called demands that the Union government has to meet in the interests of Tamil Nadu.

On Monday, the ADMK leaders had visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament and held a crucial meeting. The meeting has lasted not more than 30 minutes during which the ADMK leaders, under the guise of being the Opposition party of Tamil Nadu, had tabled the demands to Modi and also discussed the political corridors in the state and averred to strengthen the ADMK-BJP alliance in the state. After meeting the Prime Minister, Edappadi Palaniswami had addressed the reporters during which he claimed that they urged the Prime Minister to pay heed to their demands.

Speaking to the reporters, Palaniswami said that they had thanked the Prime Minister for campaigning for ADMK in the recently-held Tamil Nadu assembly polls. Palaniswami, who is the Opposition Leader in the assembly, further said that they urged the Prime Minister to provide adequate numbers of Covid-19 vaccine doses to Tamil Nadu and further urged not to permit the Karnataka government to carry out the Mekedatu dam project across the Cauvery river. Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have been locking horns in the Mekedatu project issue and Tamil Nadu has strongly been opposing the project for several years by stating that it will harm the interests of the farmers.

Palaniswami has said that the ADMK leaders had also demanded the Prime Minister to execute the project to merge the Cauvery and Godavari rivers to ally the dearth of water resources in the state and the leaders had also urged Modi to take diplomatic measures to stop the Sri Lankan Navy from attacking the Tamil Nadu fishermen. While he was addressing, a reporter has asked Palaniswami about VK Sasikala's remarks of single leadership in ADMK and after hearing Sasikala's name, Palaniswami has concluded his press meet and he walked away along with other ADMK leaders.

According to reports close to the developments, both the ADMK leaders would have raised the issue of the DMK government probing alleged corruption during the ADMK's rule. They had highlighted the matter to the Prime Minister days after ADMK leader MR Vijayabaskar's properties were raided by the state government's anti-corruption body in which Rs 25 lakh was seized. The anti-corruption body has filed a case against Vijayabaskar in which it has said that he had bought properties worth Rs 8 crore during serving as the Tamil Nadu Minister of Transport during the previous regime.

On Sunday, after reaching Delhi, ADMK's Coordinator O Panneerselvam had visited Union Minister of State L Murugan, who was serving as the Tamil Nadu BJP President before his elevation to the Union cabinet. It has been reported that the ADMK leaders will also meet the Central BJP leaders in Delhi and discuss the upcoming local body elections in Tamil Nadu along with the three Rajya Sabha seats that need to be elected from the state. The reports say that the ADMK leaders will also meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and they will be arriving back in Chennai later on Monday or earlier on Tuesday.
