ADMK's tug of war: VK Sasikala is ready to face this...What about EPS and OPS?

In the midst of an acute political crisis in ADMK where the top leaders are in a tug of war in a battle for leadership, expelled ADMK's general secretary VK Sasikala said that she is ready to face the upcoming Lok Sabha polls by uniting the ADMK. Though Sasikala is not with ADMK, she has been in a political spotlight and her remarks have been drawing attention across the state.

Tamil Nadu's Opposition party ADMK is in more fragility in the wake of escalating divide between the two factions led by - Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) and O Panneerselvam (OPS). In recent times, the intra-party crisis has been getting worsened with both the factions are tussling to claim the party. While Sasikala wasn't directly involved in the clash, there were reports that OPS was aligning towards Sasikala to oust EPS and his fleet from the party.

Since EPS was elected as the ADMK's interim general secretary earlier this year, both the factions are staging a judicial battle, which has now reached the Supreme Court. While EPS claims that he has got the backing of most of the partymen, OPS has been challenging his rival's elevation and recently, EPS sent a legal notice to OPS against the latter using the party's seal and the name despite getting expelled from the party.

Earlier this month, there were developments that gave a hint to the cadres that OPS has been planning to launch a new party, possibly with the support of Sasikala. When both EPS and OPS are in same equation of getting support from BJP and at a high time when the BJP's central leadership wants the ADMK be united, Sasikala has now come to the front and said that the works have begun to reunite ADMK.

On Friday, Sasikala participated in a Christmas event in Kilpauk church in Chennai and she also distributed free food to the elderly people at the old age home in Kilpauk. Speaking to the reporters, Sasikala said that the ADMK would be reunited before the 2024 general elections and that she is ready face a political event where ADMK will be united and contested in the polls. She said, "All factions will be united with the ADMK and face the next general elections unitedly and emerge victorious."

She further said, "I am common to all. I am engaged in unifying the activities of all. We will all face the Lok Sabha election together." As she hinted about working for reunification of ADMK, her remarks have invited flak from EPS's faction. Addressing the reporters about her remarks, former ADMK Minister and EPS's confidant D Jayakumar said that the party will never accept OPS, Sasikala, and TTV Dhinakaran. Meanwhile, on Saturday, the OPS faction had paid tribute to ADMK's founder MG Ramachandran (MGR) during the latter's death anniversary. During the event, the OPS camp called EPS as a traitor and took pledge to defeat EPS.
