After cremating his mother, PM Modi flags off a big project in West Bengal...Check out Mamata's request that goes viral!

Hours after performing last rites of his demised mother Heeraben Modi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Vande Bharat Express in West Bengal. While it was a scheduled event, Modi was supposed to visit the state and launch the project. However, he eventually ended up flagging off the project through video conferencing in the wake of his mother's death.

Narendra Modi's mother was hospitalized recently at UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre in Ahmebad, Gujarat and Modi earlier visited her and inquired about her health condition. While she was showing signs of recovery, her health deteriorated and amid the treatments, Heeraben Modi had breathed her last in the wee hours of Friday - December 30 at the age of 100. After learning about her demise, Modi immediately rushed to Ahmedabad and performed the last rites.

Narendra Modi carried his mother's mortal remains and cremated her body amidst the nationwide attention. Taking to Twitter, Modi wrote, "A glorious century rests at the feet of God." Modi was last seen with his mother publicly during the recently-held Gujarat assembly polls and after learning about her demise, several national leaders including the central ministers and international leaders including Pakistan and Japan Prime Ministers have expressed their condolences to Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister had scheduled to visit West Bengal to inaugurate various events. However, as his mother had passed away, there was a change in his travel itinerary and he decided to attend the events virtually. Hours after performing the last rites of his mother, Narendra Modi flagged off several projects including a big project of Vande Bharat Express in West Bengal.

The event was held in Howrah and was attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Addressing in the event, Mamata Banerjee had requested Modi to take rest as he came after cremation and her remarks have been going viral. Mamata Banerjee said, "Respected Prime Minister, today is a sad day. I pray to God, may God give you the strength and bless you so that you can love your mother with your action and your activities."

"Sir, I convey my gratitude to you because you were supposed to come to West Bengal today. But because of the sad demise of your mother, you could not reach but heartily you have reach to us through your virtual program. Even I will request make the program cut short and please take rest because just you are coming from cremation", he added.

In his virtual address, Modi said that the Union government is making record investment for railway infrastructure modernisation. After flagging off the Howrah- Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express, the Prime Minister said that railway stations, including New Jalpaiguri, are being developed on the lines of airports. Commenting about flagging off the Vande Bharat Express, Modi wrote on Twitter, "The Vande Bharat Express between Howrah to New Jalpaiguri will improve connectivity and provide greater opportunities for economic growth and tourism.
