Another sitting ADMK MLA tests positive for COVID-19, becomes the fifth in the party!

Sitting ADMK MLA Amman Arjunan, who represents Coimbatore South Constituency in the assembly, has spelled positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Sunday, becoming the fifth legislator of the ruling party to confirmed positive for the pandemic and ninth in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly as the rest four belong to the opposition DMK party.

According to the reports, Arjunan (58) has been getting treated at the Government ESI hospital in Coimbatore. He underwent testing two days back and his result came back positive on Sunday. The reports say that, along with legislator, his 32-year-old daughter, 39-year-old son-in-law, and 11-year-old granddaughter have already tested positive for the virus and undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

The family members had recently attended a family event in Madurai and turned back to Coimbatore. On June 30, all three members of the legislator's family tested positive following which the health department collected the samples of the legislator and instructed them to remain under home quarantine and after the legislator tested positive for the infection on Sunday, he was admitted to the ESI hospital. 

MLA Arjunan has become the fifth legislator in the ADMK party to spell positive for the virus. Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan, Sriperumbudur MLA Palani, Ulundurpet MLA Kumaraguru, and Paramakudi MLA Sathan Prabhakar had earlier tested positive and are under treatment. 

On the DMK side, Chepauk MLA J Anbalagan, Rishivandiyam MLA Vasantham Karthikeyan, Gingee MLA Masthan, Cheyyur MLA Arasu had tested positive for the virus of which J Anbalagan had succumbed to the virus last month while the rest are under treatment.

As of Sunday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,11,151 cases so far of which 46,860 cases are active, 62,778 have been discharged, and 1,510 patients had succumbed to the viral infection. According to the Union Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state with the most number of cases after Maharashtra, which has reported 2,06,619 cases so far as of Monday morning.
