Another wicket gone in BJP: Third BJP MLA joins the rival party in four months!

Amid the ongoing political tussle between BJP and the West Bengal-ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), the state has been witnessing the fall of wickets in the Central ruling party as the BJP MLAs are switching to the Trinamool Congress even as Mamata Banerjee continues her reign in the state for the third consecutive term.

It's been four months since Mamata Banerjee had become the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the third time. She has secured a landslide victory in the 2021 assembly polls by defeating the BJP. Through her victory, she rose to be one of the strongest contenders against Narendra Modi and following her triumph, some of the BJP MLAs, who were earlier with the TMC, are again joining back to the TMC. Recently, two BJP MLAs had joined the TMC and now, another BJP MLA has joined the TMC.

According to reports, BJP MLA from Bagda, Biswajit Das has on Tuesday joined the TMC and he had become the third BJP MLA to join TMC since the state assembly elections that were held in April-May this year. Das has left the TMC in 2019 due to a misunderstanding and in the 2021 polls, he contested and won from Bagda on a BJP ticket. A two-time MLA, Das has rejoined the TMC on Tuesday and he said he was not comfortable in the BJP.

He said, "I wanted to return to the TMC long ago and I have never felt very comfortable in the BJP. The BJP has done nothing for Bengal. It is a party of outsiders and never understands the pulse of the people in the state. There was some misunderstanding with the party (TMC) then and it would have been better if I hadn't left the party. But now, it is like coming back home for me." Das has joined the TMC in the presence of the party's general secretary Partha Chatterjee, who is the West Bengal Minister for Industries.

Welcoming Das back to the party, Chatterjee said that the BJP has been attempting post-poll revenge against the TMC as it has faced a debacle in the assembly polls. He claimed that the TMC will fight BJP politically and the BJP is trying to belittle the people of West Bengal. On Monday, BJP MLA Tanmoy Ghosh has returned to the TMC and quitting the BJP camp, where he joined before the assembly polls.

Earlier this June, BJP MLA and party's national vice-president Mukul Roy has rejoined the TMC four years after he left the party and joined the BJP. Roy was number two in the TMC's leadership after Mamata Banerjee and he rose to one of the important BJP leaders in the state. He also won the polls as a BJP candidate. However, a month after TMC has won the elections, Roy has joined the TMC in the presence of Mamata Banerjee and the reports say that all three BJP legislators are continuing to be the BJP MLA.

Responding to the fall in wickets of the legislators, West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh has said that those who have changed sides would never embrace BJP's ideology and principles. He further said that the BJP has welcomed everyone who was willing to fight against the TMC. However, people who had returned to the TMC as BJP has lost in the polls. By citing that it's their decision of switching the party, Dilip Ghosh has demanded the three BJP legislators to resign as MLAs as they had joined another party despite being elected in the BJP's ticket. On the other hand, the TMC leaders had said that BJP will lose more wickets in the coming days as several BJP leaders are contacting the TMC to join the party.
