Are you living in Chennai? Here's all you must know about the latest warning of heavy rains!

After a brief respite from the downpour, the residents of Chennai are bracing up a new warning that was issued on Tuesday, which had spelt red alert for the city that it will record a heavy rainfall on November 18.  Tamil Nadu centre of the India Meteorological Department has issued the warning as the low-pressure area has been developing and intensifying as depression over the south Andhra Pradesh coast.

The weather watchdog has also said that Chennai's adjacent districts of Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur will receive rains on Tuesday - November 16 and Wednesday - November 17. The IMD has also predicted rains in the districts of Vellore, Ranipet, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, and parts of the delete belt. The warning has come when the city is yet to return to normalcy as several parts are still inundated and the residents are still facing a disruption.

Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority has also shared the weather forecast for Tamil Nadu for the next five days from November 16. Puducherry is also expected to receive light to moderate rains on Tuesday along with the Karaikal areas. The heavy downpour recorded during the last week had brought back the memories of the 2015 floods. Chennai had recorded heavy rainfall for the first time since 2015 and besides Chennai, several parts of the state had also received incessant rainfall during last week. 

A low-pressure area was formed over the south Andaman sea on Saturday - November 13. In its bulletin issued on Saturday morning, the IMD has said that the system was likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 15. The agency further said that it will then likely continue to move west-northwestwards, intensify further and reach near the Andhra Pradesh Coast around November 18. 

Earlier, Reacting to the fresh warning, the weather watchers had said the low-pressure area would bring heavy rainfall over the coast of Andhra Pradesh and cited that there are more rains in the store for Chennai as the system would bring heavy downpour. It has been predicted that apart from Chennai, several parts of north Tamil Nadu will receive rainfall. 

Meanwhile, Kanyakumari, the southern district of Tamil Nadu had recorded a historical rainfall for the past two days that had damaged several properties and put the district into mayhem. The rainwater had inundated railway tracks and most of the public places. Chief Minister MK Stalin has on Monday visited the district and took stock of the situation and damages. He also has distributed flood relief to affected people and he had handed over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh as solatium to the family of a man who drowned in the district.
