Arrest warrant for PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss ahead of the elections...Here's what happened!

With just two weeks ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has invited fresh trouble as the Villupuram Court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him in a case that dates back for seven years. The development has come when Anbumani has been on the campaign trail and his legal counsel has been working to challenge the verdict dictated by the judicial body.

According to reports close to the developments, Anbumani Ramadoss had spoken in a fashion of instigating violence while he was addressing the party's event that was held in Villupuram in 2013. The case was filed against him at Brahmadesam police station in Villupuram under the grounds of inciting violence. The hearing was carried out by the bench of Combined courts of Villupuram, which probes the matter connected to the MPs and MLAs. The case has been in a hearing with no final verdict pronounced.

Amid the hearing, Anbumani had approached Madras High Court and obtained the order of skipping the in-person appearance for the hearing in Villupuram. Under the umbrella of the High Court's order, Anbumani had stayed off from the hearing. The reports say that the High Court's order was temporary and it has come to end recently, making him appear for the hearing.

However, he failed to appear for the hearing that was held on Monday following which the Villupuram Court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Anbumani. In what has become trouble for the PMK leader ahead of the polls, the reports say that the party members and supporters had been shocked over the verdict and his legal counsel is working to obtain a stay on the order.

Anbumani's legal counsel has said that Madras High Court has already dismissed the case and it is unacceptable that a non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued for the case that has been dismissed. However, the Government prosecutor in Villupuram had denied the statement of Anbumani's counsel and said that the government hasn't got the order of the High Court on dismissing the case.

It must be noted that Anbumani's PMK is going to contest in the upcoming polls in the state ruling ADMK alliance. PMK will be directly contesting in 23 seats, mostly in the northern districts where the party's vote bank - Vanniyar community majorly lives. Tamil Nadu will go to the single-phase poll on April 6 and the votes will be counted on May 2, during which the results will be announced.
