Back-to-back shocker in Chennai: The father of a girl student, who was murdered, dies of heart attack

In what has become a back-to-back shocker, the father of a girl student, who was murdered in a railway station in Chennai, has died of a heart attack. The girl was killed after being pushed in front of a suburban train by a stalker on Thursday. The police have arrested the assailant who murdered the girl and taken under custody. 

While the chilling incident was making headlines across the state, there was a shocking development where the girl's father has passed away hours later of her death. The girl was identified as 20-year-old Sathya Priya, a resident of Adambakkam near Guindy. Sathya Priya's father Manickam suffered a chest pain after hearing the news of his daughter's death. 

Manickam was rushed to the hospital for treatments. However, he breathed his last due to a heart attack during the early morning hours of Friday. Sathya Priya was killed in a broad daylight, around 1.15 pm, on Thursday while she was standing at St Thomas Mount railway station. She was killed by 23-year-old Sathish, who fled the spot and went absconding. Seven police teams were formed to arrest him. 

Sathya Priya was a sophomore at a private college while 23-year-old Sathish was harassing her. The preliminary reports found that Sathish was known to Sathya Priya as both hail from the same area in Guindy. Sathya Priya had approached the police and lodged complaints against Sathish for harassing her. However, no proper actions were taken. On October 13, Sathya Priya was waiting for the train with her friends when Sathish came to the station.

He approached her and there was a heated argument between them after which Sathish pushed her in front of the train that was approaching the station. Sathya Priya died on the spot and the railway police arrived at the spot and retrieved Sathya's body from the tracks and sent for postmortem. After committing the crime, Sathish fled the spot and a probe was launched into the death. A total of seven teams- four teams under the Railway police and three teams under the St Thomas Mount police were formed to trace and arrest Sathish. 

After an intense manhunt, Sathish was located at Thoraipakkam and he was arrested during the wee hours of Friday - October 14. He was brought to Mambalam police station for further inquiry as the developments from the incident were closely watched across the state. He will later be taken into judicial custody for further investigations.

Notably, both the families of accused and victim were into law enforcement. While Sathish is the son of a retired Special Sub-Inspector from Adambakkam police station, Sathya Priya's mother is a head-constable at the same police station. Sathish had incessantly harassed Sathya Priya and she had filed complaints on two occasions in Mambalam and St Thomas Mount Police stations. 

However, no action was taken and it has been reported that both the families have reached to a comprise in the past only to pave the way for further harassments as Sathish didn't stop his awful conduct with Sathya Priya. He was following Sathya Priya almost every time and likewise, he came to St Thomas Mount station where he picked up a tussle with Sathya Priya.
