Bad opening for CSK: Will MS Dhoni & Co fulfil the demand from the Yellove fans?

The Chennai Super Kings will be marching into the upcoming IPL season as the defending champions but for the fans, the battlefield will be different not with the new faces, but without the signature stars. As one of the successful IPL teams, CSK has always been close to the heart of the fans and so were the players. The IPL 2022 will be breaking the cluster of stars in CSK as the franchise has released some of the crucial players, who had proven to be the game changers at difficult times.

The mega auction for the IPL 2022 has been inching closer for the upcoming season will introduce two new teams. The existing eight teams are preparing for a good market of the auction and as per the rule, the franchises are allowed to retain only four players ahead of the auction while the rest will be pooled for the trade. On Tuesday, the CSK management has announced the names of the four players who were retained for the upcoming season and the decision had shocked the fans as they are going to miss Chinna Thala.

The CSK retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. The team had made a decision of releasing some key players - Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis. Yes, these three stars didn't win retention to stay with the CSK and the development had stirred wrath from the fans, who now demand the CSK management to retain Suresh Raina, who was fondly called 'Chinna Thala'. For the fans, Suresh Raina was their favourite in the team after MS Dhoni and besides during the period of the ban, Raina had remained with the CSK and had been instrumental to the team.

Suresh Raina is also the highest run-scorer for the CSK and an ace fielder. Several fans consider Raina as a congenital player for the CSK and though his performance plunged in recent times, he still continues to be a player to celebrate. As the news of his release made headlines, netizens took to social media and slammed the CSK management for not retaining Raina ahead of IPL 2022. They had reminisced his contributions to the team and his records.

Raina also holds a feather of playing more than 200 IPL games and he had scored 5,528 runs at an average of 32.5. His release didn't catch up well with the fans and invited huge disappointment. One Twitter user wrote, "Do good to others. Good will come to you in unexpected ways" - one of the fakest quotes. Thanks, @ChennaiIPL for treating Raina like this (sic)." Another fan had shared Raina's stat and wrote, "We're proud of you champ Raina. Forever, you'll be my first priority."

Several fans had demanded MS Dhoni to intervene in the matter and retain Suresh Raina, as the expectation on the team has grown like never before after winning the title for the fourth time. Raina had joined CSK in 2008 during the inaugural season of the IPL. While the fans demand to have Raina back on the yellow squad, it has been reported that he could be picked by his home-state team Lucknow, which is one of the two new franchises.

On the other hand, a section of CSK fans believes that the team could bid for Raina in the mega auction if he is not contracted by any of the teams. So far, the team has retained four players - Jadeja, Dhoni, Moeen Ali, and Gaikwad. Dhoni has been retained as the second player after Jadeja, who was retained for Rs 16 crore. Following Jadeja, Dhoni has been retained for Rs 12 crore, Moeen Ali for Rs 8 crore, and Ruturaj Gaikwad for Rs 6 crore. As the CSK had a bad opening from the fans after releasing Raina, all eyes are on the mega auction to win him back to the team.
