Big news for Tamil cinema fans: Is Mani Ratnam preparing to clash with Rajinikanth?

'Ponniyin Selvan', which is a masterpiece of master director Mani Ratnam, is magnificently getting baked to present the remarkable fashion of the Indian cinema by covering the epic and historical drama of Ponniyin Selvan. The storyline, the cast, and the crew have left the fans and audience with no doubt that the movie is undeniably going to be the magnum opus of the legendary director. 

Mani Ratnam is into a greater task of bringing the legends from across the aisles under his mega project and the first poster of the movie had triggered larger expectations from across and beyond the borders. Touching upon the historical subject, Mani Ratnam has showcased his audacity and captured why he has been celebrated across India. The movie shooting has recently resumed in Hyderabad after a gap of nearly ten months. 

According to reports close to the developments, the shooting of the movie is most likely to get completed by March following which the movie will be progressing towards the final stage of the release. The shooting is currently underway at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad and if all go as per the schedule, Ponniyin Selvan may become this year's Diwali treat to the fans and audience. It is expected that the movie team will unveil the official announcement soon. 

If the movie is slated for release on Diwali, it will be a clash between Mani Ratnam's fleet and Superstar Rajinikanth as Rajini's starrer 'Annaatthe' has been slated for the release on November 4, 2021, during Diwali. It will be undoubtful that this year's Diwali will present the healthy clash and remarkable treat to the fans across and beyond the borders.

Produced by Subaskaran and Mani Ratnam under the banners of Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies respectively, Ponniyin Selvan will bring the reputed stars together in what would become an unprecedented unification. The movie will be a historical drama. It is directed by Mani Ratnam and he has jointly written the story along with Elango Kumaravel and Jeyamohan. The cast includes a slew of reputed stars including Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Jayaram, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Sobhita Dhullipala, Kishore, Balaji Sakthivel, Riyaz Khan, Lal, Nizhalgal Ravi, and Mohan Raman. 

The pack of magnificent stars has become one of the significant elements of the movie, leading to the possible conclusion that such collaboration would only be possible for Mani Ratnam when it comes to balancing the roles and giving equal space for all these multi-lingual big shots. The crew is no way less magnificent than the cast as Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman will be composing the music for this magnum opus while Ravi Varman will be taking care of Cinematography and Editing will be done by Sreekar Prasad. 

The movie will be based on the historical novel 'Ponniyin Selvan' written by popular writer Kalki Krishnamurthy. The title poster of the film was released this year in January. According to reports, the movie is progressing swiftly and the shooting has been expected to get completed by March 5. Ponniyin Selvan is going to become one of the most expensive movies of Indian cinema and it has been reported that the movie is getting produced on a budget of Rs 500 crores.
