Big news for Thalapathy fans... 'Master' Vijay sets a new record!

In a yet another relishing moment for Vijay fans that rightly captured the dominance of the actor on social media, Thalapathy's tweet of posting his selfie with the fans has become the most retweeted tweet on Twitter in India in 2020 as the selfie was the first of its kind from the actor, who took it amid the sea of his fans, who gathered at the shooting spot in Neyveli to see him. 

Twitter India had released the top trends for the year 2020 and the social media giant had published some of the important events and topics occupied 2020 with the hashtag of #ThisHappened2020. Thalapathy's selfie has topped the list of the most retweeted tweet in 2020 and the actor's selfie with his fans, which was taken in February, had rampantly spread across and beyond the borders, which made the feat possible and the fans had gone agog after Twitter made the announcement that the actor's selfie had become one of the most celebrated events in the year. 

Actor Vijay had shared the selfie on Twitter and wrote "Thank you Neyveli". It was taken days before the nation was imposed with the COVID-19 lockdown and restrictions. The selfie went viral for being the actor's first of its kind gesture and he had taken the selfie with the fans who gathered at the Neyveli shooting spot to see and support him after the actor was investigated by the Income Tax department for his salary in the movie 'Bigil'. 

Vijay was taking part in the shooting for the movie 'Master' on the premises of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) in Neyveli, Cuddalore and while he was in shooting, the Income Tax department had summoned the actor and directly went to the shooting spot and took the actor for the investigations, which shocked Vijay fans. The IT department had conducted raids in the actor's residence in Chennai and the properties of his financier. Vijay was questioned by the IT department for two days over his salary he banked for acting in Bigil, which was produced by AGS Entertainment and directed by Atlee. 

The IT sleuths had also probed the producers on the profits of the movie. While the actor was put under investigation for over two days, his fans had expressed support and solidarity to him amid the unanticipated tension. Vijay fans took to Twitter and trended the hashtag of #WeStandWithVijay and poured their support to the actor. The hashtag had gone viral and the fans had awaited to see Vijay getting back to the sets. Following the IT raids, the actor came to Neyveli to resume the shooting and after learning that the actor has come, thousands of his fans had gathered in Neyveli to see him. 

After knowing that fans had gathered to see him, Vijay came out of the sets and climbed atop his vanity van and waved at the sea of his fans. Filled with happiness over their love and support, the actor took out his mobile phone and clicked selfie by having thousands of fans at the backdrop. He took the selfie in February this year and he shared the selfie on Twitter and wrote "Thank you Neyveli". The selfie went viral as it was rampantly shared and retweeted, which now has created a record.  

According to Twitter India, Vijay's selfie has got over 145.7k retweets becoming the most retweeted tweet in India in 2020, revealing that his one click and earned lakhs of love. The actor's fans are celebrating the news that their favorite Thalapathy had created another feat, which revealed his dominance and followers in social media. In a press release, Manish Maheswari, who is the Managing Director of Twitter India said, "Being the year it has been, conversation on Twitter in 2020 was unique. From the fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic, rejoicing in celebratory moments, standing up for those communities impacted by the pandemic, to bonding over rediscovered shows, interests, and memes, India came together beautifully on Twitter this year".

On the other hand, Virat Kohli's tweet announcing his wife Anushka Sharma's pregnancy was the most liked tweet with 642.7k likes while Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan's tweet announcing that he had tested positive for COVID-19 was the most quoted tweet with 43.6k quotes and Prime Minister Modi's tweet on lighting lamps at his official residence was the most retweeted political tweet whereas MS Dhoni's tweet thanking PM Modi was the most retweeted sports tweet. While the #COVID19 was the most used current affairs hashtag in 2020, #IPL2020 was the most used sports hashtag. Twitter India had shared the top trends in English, Hindi, and Tamil.
