This BJP MLA wants to fight the rival in style of 'Taliban': How he attracted controversy?

With the view of fighting the rival, a ruling BJP MLA in the state of Tripura had instigated the party workers to counter the leaders of the Trinamool Congress in the style of Taliban fighters if they arrive at the Agartala airport. MLA  Arun Chandra Bhowmik had invited big controversy through his 'Taliban' remark. He made this comment on Wednesday during a felicitation ceremony that was held in the South Tripura district for newly inducted Union Minister of state for social justice and empowerment Pratima Bhowmik.

Addressing the ceremony, Arun Chandra Bhowmik said, "I appeal to all of you (BJP cadres) that we need to attack them (Trinamool Congress) in Talibani style. We have to attack them once they landed at the airport here. We will protect our government led by (Chief Minister) Biplab Kumar Deb with every drop of blood." A video clip of his comments had gone viral on social media and he had attracted heavy criticism for instigating the party cadres to be insurgents and to attack the rival under the guise of protecting the government.

Coming down hard on Arun Chandra Bhowmik, Tripura TMC leader Subal Bhowmik had demanded the arrest of the BJP MLA. Subal Bhowmik said that the TMC leaders of West Bengal were harassed at a private hotel in Agartala and the incident had happened after the MLA had made his remarks of provoking enmity. It must be noted that Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has been unveiling efforts in Tripura to contest in the state assembly polls in 2023.

Senior leaders of TMC including National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee have been frequently visiting Tripura to construct a political base for TMC to contest in the upcoming assembly polls. However, some of the BJP workers claim that the TMC is trying to harm the BJP government in Tripura that came to power by ending the 25-year-long Communist era. However, the Central ruling party has managed to stay off from the comments of Arun Chandra Bhowmik.

BJP Tripura Chief Spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty said the comment made by Bhowmik is of his own and the party doesn't take any responsibility. "It is entirely his responsibility. This is not the culture of BJP", Chakraborty told PTI. According to reports, Arun Chandra Bhowmik has defended his remarks and claimed that he had used the Taliban as an example to justify how the party should counter the TMC seriously.

He said that he had used the word 'Talibani' to make things clear that the Trinamool Congress is trying to harm the BJP government in Tripura and the rival party needs a strong counter and reaction. By citing that the use of the word Talibani could have sent a wrong message, Arun Chandra Bhowmik said that his intention was to take the need to counter the TMC to the party cadres in Tripura.
