BJP State President of Manipur S Tikendra Singh has passed away in Imphal in the evening hours of Thursday at the age of 69 due to the COVID-19 viral infection. Several leaders of the saffron party have expressed their tributes to the deceased leader, who was appointed to the party's top post last year. 

As a retired professor, Tikendra Singh was one of the notable leaders of the Central ruling party in Northeastern India. The 69-year-old leader has tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection on April 27 and he was getting treated at Shija Hospital in Imphal. Despite the efforts to save him, Singh has breathed his last in the evening hours of Thursday due to the pandemic and his demise had utterly saddened the leaders of the Central ruling party. 

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh has informed about the passing away of Tikendra Singh. The Chief Minister tweeted, "I'm at a loss of word to learn that Prof S Tiken Singh, president BJP Manipur, has passed away just a while ago". Biren Singh stated that Tikendra Singh was a retired professor who had worked tirelessly with selfless devotion towards the ideology of BJP, was loved by one and all in Manipur. 

The Chief Minister added, "We have lost a stalwart of BJP in Manipur who have dedicated his life for the service of people and the party. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. May your soul rest in peace Oja." Tikendra Singh was appointed as the President of the BJP Manipur Unit in June 2020. National leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and National BJP President JP Nadda had expressed their condolences to the family of deceased Tikendra Singh. 

Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister said, "Saddened by the demise of Prof. S Tiken Singh, President of @BJP4Manipur. He will be remembered as a hardworking Karyakarta who strengthened the Party in Manipur. He was active in many social service initiatives. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, "Pained to learn about @BJP4Manipur State President, Shri S Tikendra Singh Ji's demise. He made sincere efforts to strengthen the BJP in the state of Manipur. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Om Shanti Shanti." In his tribute note, JP Nadda said, "Shri S Tikendra Singh was a dedicated leader, who was always committed to strengthening the BJP in Manipur. He worked tirelessly for the betterment of society. Pained by his untimely and unfortunate demise. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this sad hour. Om Shanti."
