That BJP woman, who supported Godse, wins a ward in Chennai Corporation!

While the Tamil Nadu ruling DMK faction has bagged hundreds of seats across the state and registered a landslide victory in the urban local body polls, the voters in the state had also given a little relief to the other parties including ADMK and BJP by electing their candidates to represent their local bodies. DMK led alliance has secured a historical triumph and amid the celebrations across the state by the ruling party, a woman has turned heads by becoming the sole winner of the BJP in Chennai Corporation.

Shockingly, that woman happens to be the staunch supporter of Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, and the caste system. Uma Anandan, a BJP candidate, has won the 134th ward in West Mambalam in the Greater Chennai Corporation. Through her, BJP has secured a councillor seat out of 200 wards and the majority of the seats were swept by the DMK, which is all set to reign most of the local bodies in the state.

Celebrating a single victory out of 200 wards, the BJP has claimed that Uma Anandan has won because of anti-incumbency. It must be noted that her ward had witnessed inundations during the heavy rainfall in Chennai in 2021. While she was campaigning for the polls, a video of her interview had spurred row over her remarks of endorsing Godse and degrading Christians and Muslims. In the video, she can be heard claiming that the majority of people who pick sickles and guns are Christians and Muslims. Speaking about her allegiance to Godse, she said, "He had his own justification. I have no regrets, I am a supporter of Godse."

In another video, Uma Anandan claims that caste is a part of our culture. She can be heard saying, "I have pride in being a Brahmin. Castes exist and it is part of our culture. We don't have any culture if caste is gone." Despite these videos doing rounds on social media, she now has a political breakthrough by winning a ward in Chennai and the BJP had begun claiming that Lotus has finally begun to grow in the city.

In the urban local body polls, BJP has won 22 wards out of 1374 wards in the municipal corporations, 56 wards out of 3843 wards in the municipalities, and 230 wards out of 7621 wards in the town panchayats. According to the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission, the Congress party has won 73 wards in the municipal corporations, 151 wards in municipalities, and 368 wards in town panchayats.

While Congress has become the third-largest party in the polls after DMK and ADMK, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has been clamouring that the BJP is the third-largest party. DMK has won 952 wards in the municipal corporations, 2360 wards in municipalities, and 4388 wards in town panchayats and the ADMK, amid bracing up a political backlash, has triumphed in 164 wards in corporations, 636 wards in municipalities, and 1206 wards in town panchayats. On the other hand, parties like AMMK, DMDK, Naam Tamilar Katchi, and Makkal Needhi Maiam didn't pose a significant fight.
