BJP's strongest arm in Facebook: See how much the party has spent on political ads!

BJP has strongly been cemented its roots on social media and the Central ruling party has widely reached across the country through the vast-stretched hands of social media in the nation and the latest report has revealed that the social media platform played a pivotal role in the overwhelming victory that the party attained in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. 

According to the spending tracker of Facebook, the BJP is one of the top ten spenders on the advertisements on the social media giant under the category of political advertisements. The spending tracker said the ruling BJP was the largest advertiser on Facebook in India on social issues, elections, and politics. 

As per the data available until August 24, the tracker revealed that for over the 18 months since February 2019, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party had spent over Rs 4.61 crore. Following BJP, the Congress party had spent Rs 1.84 crore. 

While the BJP was at the first spot with high investment on Facebook advertisements, the top ten list has four other advertisers that are associated with the ruling party, as all these four associates have the common address of the BJP's headquarters in Delhi.

Putting together BJP and its associates, they had spent Rs 10.17 crore for advertisements for the last 18 months and their share is about 64% of the total advertising by the top ten in this category. The top ten players had spent a total of Rs 15.81 crore on advertisements. It has to be noted that the period covered includes the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in which the BJP had returned to power at the center with a huge majority. 

The social media giant said the advertisement has categorized under social issues, elections, and politics. The tracker said that BJP is the largest advertiser in Facebook since 2018 and the community pages of the associates that mentioned by the tracker include 'My First Vote for Modi', 'Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat', and 'Nation With Namo' and according to the reports, all three pages promote content related to Prime Minister Modi and the BJP, however, they didn't mention any direct links to the party but only mentioned the address of the BJP headquarters in Delhi. 

According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the BJP claimed an income of Rs 10.03 billion whereas it has mentioned Rs 7.1 billion as its expenditure during 2016-17. In 2019, BJP has earned Rs 2,410 crore, becoming the richest political party in India. As per the tracker, apart from BJP and Congress, Aam Aadmi Party was one of the political parties in the top ten list and the Delhi ruling party had spent Rs 69 lakh for Facebook advertisements.
