CAB directs heated tug-of-war between Tamil Nadu's top parties!

The Citizenship Amendment Bill, despite the uproar, protests, outcry, and dissents, had seen a comfortable and affluent passage in both the houses of the Parliament as the majority of members voted in favor of the bill by upholding the party-centric support that had overruled people-centric and constitutional-centric support. The bill is now on the President's table to obtain his consent after which it will be shaped as a law.

On Monday, the bill witnessed a convenient clearance in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament, where the BJP has the numbers over the majority mark and it was anticipated that the bill would be fenced in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house, where the party lacks the majority. On Wednesday, the director of the amendment bill Amit Shah tabled the proposal in the Rajya Sabha for the clearance.

Amidst the dismay that was spurred by the opposition parties, the bill came through lenient ratification on the tough floor of opposition. 125 members of the Upper house voted in favor while 99 voiced against the bill and by attaining the majority votes in 245 member house, the bill was cleared with the support of the BJP allied and regional parties. Of those 125 marks, 11 members of the ADMK party, the ruling party of Tamil Nadu had supported the bill that has now erupted the accusations from the state's opposition party DMK, which strongly opposed the bill.

The support from the ADMK has come in the middle of the voices that urged the Central government to induct the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in the bill to grant them Indian citizenship. While tabling the support, the ADMK MPs had requested Home Minister Amit Shah to induct the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees and Muslims under the bourn but eventually, they kept their support for the bill despite their request was demeaned. They seemed to be raising the voice for the sake of backing the Tamil refugees while they asserted their position of supporting the bill.

Moments after ADMK had backed the bill, the DMK party had slashed the members and the leadership of the ADMK for favoring the bill that is against the principles of the democracy. DMK's president M K Stalin said that the bill was a direct assault on secularism, equality, and fraternity and by supporting the bill, the ADMK has exposed its stand of supporting the immoral legislation. Stalin accused the ADMK members of betraying the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees who were omitted in the bill. By slashing the ruling party that continues to loot the state, Stalin blamed the leadership of the party to keep the blind support for the BJP and asked the need for having a separate party while it goes behind the BJP in keeping its support.

Citizenship Amendment Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship and provides the status of Indian national for the non-Muslim refugees of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who fled their countries after facing series of religious persecution and suppression at their homeland. By consenting the legislation that amends the Citizenship Act 1955, the bill would induct Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians, Parsis - excluding Rohingya Muslims and Sri Lankan Tamils, who migrated to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan till December 31st, 2014 as Indian citizens by revoking their identities as 'illegal immigrants'.
