Captain Vijayakanth, the star of Tamil cinema and politics, has returned home after a successful battle with a respiratory infection. The actor-turned-politician, who is fondly called as ‘Captain’ by his fans and followers, was hospitalized on November 18, after he had a severe respiratory distress and was put on ventilator support. He was diagnosed and was given appropriate treatment at a private hospital in Chennai.

The hospital authorities confirmed that Vijayakanth had recovered fully from the infection and was discharged yesterday night. Vijayakanth, who is the founder and chief of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party, has been active in Tamil Nadu politics since 2005.

He has contested in several elections and has served as the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly from 2011 to 2016.  He has a loyal fan base and a strong political following, who are eagerly waiting for his comeback.

Vijayakanth, who has acted in more than 60 films in various genres, is one of the most popular and influential personalities in Tamil Nadu. He has a loyal fan base across the state and beyond. He is known for his action-packed roles, patriotic themes and punch dialogues. Though is inactive in tamil cinema, he made his last appearance in his son Shanmuga Pandian's debut film 'Sagaptham'.
