Caught in trouble: Why senior DMK leader is suspended from the party?

A senior DMK leader has caught into trouble as the party suspended him with immediate effect after his social media post triggered an outcry within the party. The suspension order was passed by DMK's General Secretary Durai Murugan on the grounds of bringing disrepute to the party.

On Thursday- October 20, the party announced that DMK leader and press secretary KS Radhakrishnan was suspended. A notice issued by Durai Murugan said that Radhakrishnan was suspended because he defied the rules of the party and his conduct was in a fashion of acting against the party's principles. In the notice, Durai Murugan further said that Radhakrishnan's membership has been temporarily suspended and he has been relieved of his duties.

Our sources say that Radhakrishnan was suspended after his social media post sparked controversy. He reportedly shared a meme on Twitter with a photoshopped image of the newly elected Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge with a caption congratulating him for being elected as Manmohan Singh 2.0. The photo was morphed and Kharge's face was stamped on Manmohan Singh's traditional attire.

Radhakrishnan's post went viral and moments after, he removed the tweet. However, it had already put him in trouble as it was widely shared. As DMK observes a strong alliance with Congress, Radhakrishnan's post has irked the DMK leadership after which action was initiated against him. Kharge was elected the president of the Congress party on Wednesday and he became the first non-Gandhi president of the party in 24 years.

Radhakrishnan's post has come days after DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin instructed the DMK ministers, MLAs, and functionaries to observe dignity and discipline. On October 4, MK Stalin warned them that there will be hesitation from his side to take action against those who indulge in improper behaviour.
