Chennai girl student's murder: An eyewitness opens up what happened at the railway station!

The chilling murder of a 20-year-old girl student in Chennai and the developments around it have been making headlines across and beyond the state. The girl, identified as Sathya Priya, was killed on Thursday- October 13 after being pushed in front of a train in a broad daylight at Chennai's St Thomas Mount suburban railway station.

The accused, 23-year-old Sathish, was arrested by police on Friday for pushing the girl in front of the train to kill her. In a back-to-back shocker, the girl's father has died by suicide after hearing the news of his daughter's death. As Chennai police are investigating the crime, an eye-witness, who was at the station, at the time of the incident, opened up about what happened at the station.

Eye witness Manohar cited that Sathish was prepared to kill her as he appeared to have known from which angle he has to push her. Speaking to a news agency, Manohar said that Sathya Priya was sitting with three of her friends when the accused Sathish approached her. Sathish called Sathya Priya when she was talking with her friends. She went to Sathish to speak with him.

The eye witness further said that the train was approaching the station as they were speaking and when the train came close, Sathish pushed her on the tracks and fled the spot before getting blocked by anyone. Manohar said that Sathish appeared to have known from which he has to push her. Manohar is a resident of Chrompet and he added that the police arrived at the spot a few hours later and retrieved Sathya Priya's body.

The body was then taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for a postmortem and a total of seven teams were formed to nab the accused. Sathish was arrested by the police in the wee hours of Friday - October 14 from Thoraipakkam and was taken into custody. The police have recovered the CCTV footage at the station in which Sathish was seen wearing a white T shirt and a black hat.

Shockingly, Sathya Priya's father Manickam, the reports say, died by suicide after hearing the news of his daughter's death. The autopsy was performed on both the bodies in Rajiv Gandhi Hospital and they were taken home amid high police security. During the morning hours of Friday, Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal visited Sathya Priya's residence in Adambakkam and inquired her mother.

Sathya Priya was a sophomore, studying B.Com at a private college and she and Sathish belong to the same area. Sathish had been stalking and harassing her for a year and though Sathya Priya filed police complaints, no action was taken. On October 13, he came to St Thomas Mount railway station and picked up an argument with Sathya Priya, forcing her to be in love affair with him.

However, as Sathya Priya refused, there was a tussle and he pushed her in front of a train in a broad daylight. Notably, both the families of accused and victim were into law enforcement. While Sathish is the son of a retired Special Sub-Inspector from Adambakkam police station, Sathya Priya's mother is a head-constable at the same police station.
