Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal is hospitalized: Here's what happened!

Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal was on Thursday admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after he suffered chest pain while in office. The sudden health setback had shocked the police fraternity as several top police officers are sirening towards the hospital to express their wishes for a speedy recovery to the commissioner. 

According to reports, Shankar Jiwal was carrying out his official duty in the Police Commissioner's Office in Vepery, Chennai, and in the afternoon hours of Thursday, he had complained of chest pain. As he developed health discomfort, the police officers at the commissioner's office had rushed Shankar Jiwal to the hospital. 

The officers had escorted the commissioner by taking him in his own car and he was then admitted to the Apollo Hospitals in Thousand Lights, Chennai. He has been getting treated by a team of doctors as several police officers visit him at the hospital. The reports say that Tamil Nadu Director-General of Police (DGP) C Sylendrababu had arrived at the hospital and enquired the doctors about the health condition of Shankar Jiwal. 

Shankar Jiwal is a 1990-batch IPS officer and was appointed as the Police Commissioner of Chennai on May 8, 2021, a day after MK Stalin was sworn in as the Chief Minister. He was serving as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for the Armed Police, Chennai before being appointed as the Chennai Police Commissioner.
