Chidambaram's solitary confinement in Tihar!

After being kept under custodial interrogation by the Central Bureau of Investigation for over a fortnight since August 21st, former Indian finance minister had now ought to be kept under solitary confinement in Tihar jail, Asia's largest facility, after Delhi CBI court had pronounced its judgement.

It has been reported that he will be in confinement of Tihar till September 19th, 2019 after he has been alleged that he has mere connection of signalling clearance to INX Media group on acquiring exorbitant overseas funds from Mauritius after the group had violated the permitted licence issued by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board through the proven mediation of Karti Chidambaram when Chidambaram was Union Finance minister in 2007. The Central Investigative agency after pertaining possible evidences had filed a complaint in 2017 while Enforcement directorate had filled complaint against Chidambaram under the grounds of money laundering in the year of 2018.

Chidambaram had cited abnormal scenes after his anticipatory bail petition was rejected by the Delhi high court and in order to shield himself from getting arrested he appealed his pre arrest bail plea in the Supreme court which had refused to list the plea for immediate hearing. In between his fight with judiciary, the team of Central Bureau of Investigation had stormed his residence in New Delhi and taken him under the custody on August 21st, 2019 for his alleged intervention to permit overseas funds to INX Media group. The case has been under hearing in Delhi CBI court where he had been produced and taken into custody and today, after the Delhi CBI court justice Ajay Kumar Kuhar had rejected to accept the appeal made by the counsel of Chidambaram to grant bail, had pronounced the judgment of transferring Chidambaram to judicial custody from CBI custody till September 19th, 2019 and further stated that he will be taken to Tihar jail.

The judgement had come regardless of lasting effort flagged by Chidambaram's legal team headed by his party colleague Kabil Sibal, who had tried to convince the court to have Chidambaram not to breath the air of Tihar. The legal team had cited that the Enforcement directorate could take him under custody for further questioning to avoid imprisonment in Tihar, but their arguments were eventually rejected.

After rejecting their arguments, Justice Ajay Kumar Kuhar had ordered the former minister with 14 days of imprisonment in Tihar and the special court had granted him to carry his medicines to jail and had further issued its directive to prison authorities to lodge Chidambaram in a separate cell after the court had considered his Z level of security. Abiding the judgement, the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had conveyed the assurance that the prison authorities will ensure to put adequate security for Chidambaram while he serves his imprisonment in Tihar jail, where he will be celebrating his 74th birthday.
