The minor girl was 16 years old and the accused was in a relationship with her. A day after they picked up a fight, he planned to kill her and executed his plan in the presence of few people.

The incident happened in Shahbad Dairy in the national capital on Sunday and after the incident was reported to the police, a manhunt was launched to nab the accused who was at large. Finally, the police arrested the accused on Monday in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh. The accused has been identified as Sahil (20) and he was a native of Bulandshahr.

According to ANI, Suman Nalwa, the Deputy Commission of Police of the region, said, "We have arrested the accused - Sahil from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. He used to work as a mechanic for AC and refrigerators. Further investigation is underway. We will make sure the maximum punishment is given to the accused. "

During the evening hours of Sunday, the 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death by Sahil. The girl was passing through the street and she was on her way to attend a birthday party of her friend's son. However, she was intercepted by Sahil and he had stabbed her multiple times in the presence of people and nobody came forward to save her.

After stabbing her, Sahil bludgeoned her with a stone. After stabbing her, Sahil fled the spot and the police were later informed about the incident. According to a police officer, they were in a relationship and they had a quarrel on Saturday. On Sunday, the girl planned to attend the birthday party of her friend's son but was intercepted and stabbed repeatedly. She was also hit with a stone.

The girl's father said, "My daughter was stabbed many times, her head was also bludgeoned into pieces. We demand stringent punishment for the accused." The body of the girl was sent for an autopsy. Though the detailed post-mortem report is yet to be released, the preliminary findings of the post-mortem have revealed that the minor girl was stabbed 16 times and her skull ruptured after she was attacked by a blunt object.

As the incident has sparked a nationwide outrage, it also has set stage for a new round of political clash between BJP and the Delhi-ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is already crossing swords with the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) , has now blamed the latter for the incident. Kejriwal said that L-G VK Saxena was responsible for the law and order in the national capital.

Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal wrote, "A minor girl was brutally murdered in Delhi. This a very sad and unfortunate. The criminals have become fearless, there is no fear of the police. LG sir, law and order is your responsibility, do something." Reacting to the horrific incident, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal has said that the national capital has become extremely unsafe for women and girls."

By citing that the minor girl was stabbed multiple times, Maliwal said, "All this has been captured on CCTV. Several people saw this but did not pay heed. Delhi has become extremely unsafe for women and girls. I appeal to the central government to call a high-level meeting with Union HM, Delhi LG, DCW chief, and Delhi CM."

On the other hand, the Delhi BJP on Monday claimed that the chilling stabbing was a case of 'love jihad' and slammed the AAP for trying to portray as it is an ordinary murder and a law and order issue. In a statement, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that the case should be taken to a fast trail court. Sachdeva said, "The brutal murder of a Hindu girl by youth Sahil Sarfaraz in Shahbad has once again shown that Love Jihad has now rocked Delhi as well."
