Corona outbreak: The death toll in India reaches 100 with 4000 positive cases!

In the middle of the unprecedented nationwide lockdown that has been imposed to curb the spread of the Coronavirus in the country, India has crossed the death toll of hundred on Monday with more than 4000 cases tested positive for the virus in its territory. 

According to the official data issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has reported 109 deaths across the country so far due to the global pandemic and the total number of cases that tested positive for the virus stands at 4067 and about 30 percent of the total cases are linked to Tablighi Jamaat Conference that was organized in Nizamuddin, Delhi in March.

The Ministry stated that in the last 12 hours, the country has added at least 490 cases and 26 more fatalities to its count. As of Sunday evening, the total number of positive cases in the country stood at 3,577 while the death toll was at 83.

The total number of positive cases include active, recovered, and deceased patients. Of the total number of 4067 cases, according to the ministry, 3666 are the active patients who are getting treated for the virus, 291 have been recovered and discharged from the hospital while 109 have succumbed due to the virus. The Central government and the state governments have been gripping up the fight against the virus as the nation has been brought under complete lockdown, restricted the unnecessary movement of the people, suspended the transportations channels across the country to mitigate and combat the spread of the virus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired the cabinet meeting on Monday - April 6th, through video conferencing. While addressing the reporters after the meeting, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Union Cabinet had approved the ordinance amending the salary, allowances, and pensions of Members of Parliament Act and the pensions and allowances for the MPs would be reduced by 30% for a year with the effect from April 1st,2020.

Javadekar stated that the President, Vice President, and the Governors of the states have come forward and decided to reduce the pay as a social responsibility and the money will go to the Consolidated Fund of India.
