Corona outbreak: India records its second casualty due to the epidemic!

India has reported its second death due to the Coronavirus as a 68-year-old woman has passed away in Delhi on Friday amid the precautionary measures that have been put in place to contain and shield the virus from getting rampant across the country.

It has been reported that the son of the deceased woman had recently returned from Europe and he was earlier tested positive for the virus after he had shown the symptoms of the epidemic. Delhi Health Ministry has stated the death of a 68-year-old woman from West Delhi was caused due to the existing ailments of diabetes and hypertension and she has also tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID19).

The deceased woman hadn't traveled to any virus-hit countries. However, she had direct contact with her son, who was tested positive earlier. Her son had a travel history to Switzerland and Italy between February 5th and 22nd. According to the reports, the health ministry officials have stated that he returned to India on February 23rd and he didn't carry the symptoms initially and days later, he developed fever and cough after which he was admitted at RML Hospital on March 7th for further treatments.

After showing positive symptoms for the global pandemic, the reports have stated that the family was put through the screening and the son and his mother were taken to the hospital. The woman has the existing ailments of diabetes and hypertension and on March 9th, her health was deteriorating after she developed pneumonia and she was taken to the Intensive Care Unit. The reports added that her samples were collected and sent for further examinations. The results returned positive. By having the conformity from the treating doctor and medical superintendent, Delhi Health Ministry said the woman has died on Friday at RML (Ram Manohar Lohia) hospital.

Since the mother and son had tested positive for the virus, the Delhi Health officials have surveyed nearly 50 houses in the neighborhood of the deceased woman and the workers have been deployed to trace the people who came through the direct contact with the son and the mother to ensure that the virus won't spread further. The Delhi woman has become the second one to die in the country due to the epidemic as earlier, 76-year-old had passed away due to the virus in Kalaburagi, Karnataka.

 

On Friday, the Delhi government has suspended all the sports-related activities to avoid mass gatherings. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the outbreak of the Coronavirus was at the containment stage and highlighted that the Delhi and Central government have been working together to combat the epidemic. According to ANI, India has reported with 83 positive cases in its territory and these numbers include Indian and the foreign nationals who were in India while they tested positive. As part of precautionary measures, the states like Punjab, Odisha, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar had closed the schools, colleges, and movie halls while Manipur closed its schools.
