Corona outbreak: Tamil Nadu reports 50 new cases and one more fatality!

Tamil Nadu has reported 50 fresh cases that were resulted positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) and one more death due to the pandemic in its territory on Monday that has put the number of total infected cases to 621 including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. With reporting fresh fatality, the death toll in the state stands at 6 amid the complete lockdown and restrictions.

In her daily briefing, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh highlighted the latest developments concerning the outbreak in the state during which she revealed the reporting of 50 fresh cases and a fatality. Of these 50, 48 had attended the Tablighi Jamaat Conference that was organized in Delhi last month, which later emerged as the national hotspot for the virus.

At the national stage, Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state to have more positive cases for the virus after Maharashtra, which has reported 748 cases so far. Most of the positive cases in Tamil Nadu have linked to the Jamaat Conference. Of the total number of 621, 570 affected patients have participated in the conference, according to the state health department. On Sunday, the state has reported 86 new cases and two deaths in its territory and of 86, 85 had attended the conference.

Beela Rajesh stated that a 57-year-old woman, who was getting treated at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, had died on Monday morning due to Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and she was tested positive for COVID-19 making the state to mark its sixth fatality, of which five were reported in the past three days. Three deceased among the six were identified to have attended the conference in Delhi.

She further stated that the health department has been working to install testing equipment in 21 government medical colleges in the state and the department is waiting for consent from the Central government. The installation would add to the capacity of the testing as the state has already installed 17 testing centers to speed up the testing for the asymptomatic people.

As of Tuesday morning, Tamil Nadu reported with 621 cases positive for the virus of which 607 are active patients, eight have been recovered and discharged while six have succumbed to the virus. These active cases include Indians and foreign nationals and getting treated across the state.
