Corona outbreak: Tamil Nadu reports 69 fresh cases and one more death!

Tamil Nadu has reported 69 fresh cases tested positive for the virus on Tuesday that had put the total number of infected cases to 690 so far in its territory and the current numbers include active, recovered, and deceased patients. By this time on March 27, the state has recorded 35 cases and within a fortnight, the state has added 650 more cases to its count amid the complete lockdown and restrictions that have been in place to stem the spread of the virus.

Along with reporting of the fresh cases, the state has also recorded one fatality on Tuesday making the death toll in the state stand at 7 so far. In her daily briefing, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary put out the latest developments and said that the state has added 69 fresh cases to its total count. According to the reports, the state has been reporting with 65 to 70 cases in an average per day since March 31st.

 

Beela Rajesh said that the state has tested 5,305 samples so far and the samples of 69 people have returned positive on Tuesday taking the number of affected cases to 690 and of these 69 positive cases, 63 have been reported to have attended Tablighi Jamaat Conference in Delhi and of the rest six, three belong to the same family, one had an inter-state travel history, one had come to the contact with the patient who had an international travel history and the health department is working to ascertain the source of the infection for the remaining one patient. 

The reports have stated that the department hasn't disclosed further information about fresh cases. Beela Rajesh further stated that one fresh fatality has been reported on Tuesday. A 64-year-old woman who was getting treated at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai has died due to the virus. The deceased had reported with co-morbid conditions including diabetes and hypertension and she has become the seventh fatality in the state succumbed to the pandemic. 

Most of the affected cases in the state had linked to the Jamaat Conference that was organized in Delhi last month. On Monday, the state reported with 50 cases of which 48 had participated in the conference and of 621 cases reported as of Monday, over 560 people had attended the event and the numbers climbed to 636 on Tuesday. With the current count, Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state to have more positive cases after Maharashtra which had reported with 748 cases so far.

Chennai has reported with the most number of cases in the state. Of 690 positive cases, Chennai is currently housing 149 cases affected by the virus. After Chennai, Dindigul has reported with 45, Tirunelveli has 38 patients, Erode has 32 cases while Trichy has 30 cases so far in the territory. On Monday, Chennai had reported with 110 cases and 39 cases have currently been added to its count in a single day. In her address, Beela Rajesh has also highlighted that 19 cases have been recovered from the virus so far.

As of Tuesday evening, the state has reported with 690 positive cases of which 664 are active patients, nineteen have been recovered and discharged while seven have succumbed to the virus. These active cases include Indians and foreign nationals and getting treated across the state.
