Corona outbreak: Tamil Nadu reports 75 fresh cases taking the tally to 309!

The state of Tamil Nadu has added 75 fresh cases, that have been tested positive for the Coronavirus, to its count on Thursday and the soaring cases have put the total number of virus-affected patients to 309 in its territory so far and this reporting has been one of the highest single-day rises recorded by the state. By crossing the mark of 300 cases, Tamil Nadu has become the second Indian state to report with the most number of infected cases after Maharashtra which reported 416 cases so far.

These 309 cases include active, recovered, and deceased patients. According to Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh, the fresh 75 cases include 74 patients who attended the Jamaat Conference in Delhi last month and one - the native of Chennai has come to the direct contact with the already infected patient. While addressing the reports, Beela Rajesh revealed the developments and she stated that of these 309 cases, 274 people have attended the Jamaat Conference in Delhi, which has now become the new epicenter for the virus in India.

According to the state government, over 1,500 people from Tamil Nadu had attended the conference that saw the presence of people from various virus-hit countries including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Of these 1,500 people, 1,100 had returned to the state after the conference along with the foreign nationals to work in the mosques while remaining stayed in Delhi due to the nationwide lockdown. The Conference was attended by thousands of people including asymptomatic cases and after the conference, most of the people have arrived in various Indian states and cities.

The state has been reporting more number of cases that were directly or indirectly linked to the Jamaat Conference as Two Thai Nationals, who attended the conference tested positive for the virus and admitted at Erode while four Indonesians from the conference tested positive for the virus and getting treated at Salem. On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu reported with 110 fresh cases affected by the virus and all of them have identified to have participated in the Delhi conference and three-figured rise at one shot has marked as the highest single-day rise in the state so far.

Earlier, the state government has appealed to the people who returned from the Delhi conference to come forward and declare themselves for the sake of the safety of themselves, their families, and society. On Thursday, Beela Rajesh said that all 1,100 people who returned from Delhi had reached out to the government for further tests and treatments and she added that the samples have been received and the results for some of the patients are yet to get declared. These people belong to 19 districts of the state and on Wednesday, the state was at third-place India with the most number of the cases and with these fresh cases, the state has climbed to the second spot amid the complete lockdown and curfew.

On March 27th, the state had reported with 35 cases and in the span of five days, the state has added 274 cases to its count. As of Thursday, the state has 309 cases so far of which 302 are active while six have been recovered and one had died to the pandemic last Wednesday making the state record its first fatality and the deceased man has also attended the conference in Delhi. These active cases are getting treated at various hospitals in the state.
