Corona outbreak: Tamil Nadu reports its second COVID-19 fatality!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported its second fatality due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in its territory on Saturday morning as a 51-year-old male has died at Villupuram government hospital, where he was undergoing treatment for the pandemic.

The state department of Health and Family Welfare has issued conformity on the second death and according to the press release, the deceased man had participated in the Tablighi Jamaat Conference that was organized in Delhi last month. He was tested positive for the virus on March 31st and admitted at the Mundiyambakkam Government Hospital in Villupuram. The demise has marked the first death in the state linked to the Delhi conference, which has become the national hotspot for the global pandemic.

The reports say that the deceased man belongs to Vandimedu in Singarathoppu, Villupuram and he was working as the Headmaster of a school and he was one of the nine people who were getting treated at the hospital with the symptoms for the virus. At the current stage, the state has recorded two fatalities succumbed to the virus.

Earlier, on March 26, a 54-year-old man had died in Madurai Rajaji Hospital where he was getting treated. He was said to have attended the Delhi conference and he was one of the first positive cases to be reported a day after the government has imposed statewide lockdown and curfew to contain the spread of the virus. He was identified to have come direct contact with the Two Thai nationals who participated in the conference and they have been getting treated in Perundurai, Erode.

After the demise of a 54-year-old, three of his family members were tested positive and admitted to the Rajaji hospital in Madurai. Health Minister said that the Madurai patient had co-morbid health conditions including uncontrollable diabetes and hypertension. As of Saturday noon, the state has reported 411 positive cases of which 364 had attended the Delhi conference. These positive cases include 402 active cases while seven have been recovered from the virus and two had passed away.
