Corona outbreak: What's the status of TN class 12 board exam results?

The complete statewide lockdown due to the Coronavirus outbreak in Tamil Nadu has resulted to cause a delay in publishing the results of class 12 board exam as the results, which usually rolled out in May, would be released in June this year in the wake of the shut down of the schools and the institutions.

According to the reports, the evaluation process of the answer sheets of class 12 students would begin by the second week of May following which the final results would be published in June and the delay in the results would result in the delay of the engineering counseling and admissions as the students would be going ahead for picking up the colleges and courses based on their board exam marks.

The reports say that initially, the results of class 12 exams in Tamil Nadu had been scheduled to publish on April 24th but the state has caught up to fight against the spread of the Coronavirus through implementing preventive measures and one of such preventive measures is to impose the complete lockdown in the territory and the lockdown has closed the establishments, shut down the non-essential services, and suspended the transportation channels.

The Department of Higher Education in the state has been planning to begin online registration for engineering admissions during the evaluation process with the view of reducing the delay. The Directorate of Technical Education has been preparing to start online counseling for engineering admissions like last year.

The Tamil Nadu government has said that it would conduct fresh exams for about 34,000 students who missed their last board exam due to the lockdown. On the other hand, the state is yet to conduct board exams for class 10 as the exams have been deferred earlier in the wake of the outbreak and the school education department has asserted that the board exams for class 10 would be conducted after the lockdown has been removed.

Earlier, there have been floating speculations that the state is planning to suspend the exams due to the lockdown. However, the department has issued a clarification that the exams are not canceled, rather, it has been postponed and the fresh notification and schedule for class 10 board exams would be released soon. On Monday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has extended the statewide lockdown till April 30th, 2020.
