COVID-19: Chennai nears to hit 1 lakh discharges while TN reported 1,265 deaths in 11 days!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,835 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday which had taken the state's tally to 3,20,355 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 34,99,300 samples so far including 67,275 that were tested on Thursday of which 5,835 have confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. These 5,835 cases include the influx of 25 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 5,835 cases, 3,549 are males and 2,286 are female patients. 

 

The press release stated that 20 districts in the state had reported major caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 989 cases, Chengalpattu has reported 453 cases, 390 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 289 cases from Coimbatore, 286 cases from Theni, 258 cases belong to Cuddalore, 243 cases from Kancheepuram, and 219 cases belong to Virudhunagar. 

Tirunelveli has reported 189 cases, 186 cases from Kanyakumari, 173 cases from Salem, 161 cases belong to Trichy, 154 cases belong to Thanjavur, 152 cases from Thiruvannamalai, 151 cases from Madurai, 143 cases belong to Vellore, 141 cases from Dindigul, 138 cases from Tenkasi, 131 and 104 cases from Pudukottai and Villupuram respectively. 

The state has reported 5,146 fresh discharges through which the total tally of discharges currently stands at 2,61,459 so far - four times higher than the active COVID-19 cases. While some of the COVID-19 hotspots in the state have been witnessing a decline in the cases, the fatality rate has been becoming worrying factor for the state as the deaths have been soaring across the state. 

According to the official press release, Tamil Nadu has recorded 119 fresh deaths taking the death toll to 5,397 so far. Of these 119 deaths, 81 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals while the rest 38 were recorded at the private hospitals. Of these 119 deaths, 18 belong to Chennai and the rest of the districts have been majorly contributing in the death toll. 112 deaths of 119 had been identified with the co-morbid conditions. 

According to the state health department, through the current reporting of 119 deaths, Tamil Nadu has reported over a hundred single-day deaths for the eleventh consecutive day. For the past eleven days, including Thursday, the state has reported 1,265 deaths. 

With the current reporting of 989 cases, Chennai has reported below 1000 cases for the seventh consecutive day. The city has recorded 1,13,058 cases so far of which 99,806 have been discharged and 2,384 had died of the viral infection. As of Thursday - August 13, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,20,355 cases so far of which 53,499 are active, 2,56,313 have been recovered, and 5,397 had succumbed to the virus.
