COVID-19: Chennai reports below 1000 cases for the second day in a row amid soaring death toll!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,883 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday which had taken the state's tally beyond 2.90 lakh by reporting 2,90,907 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 31,55,619 samples so far including 67,553 that were tested on Saturday of which 5,883 confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. These 5,883 cases include the influx of 17 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 5,883 cases, 3,410 are males while the rest 2,473 are female patients. 

 

The press release stated 18 districts of the state had accounted for major caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 986 cases, Theni has reported 452 cases, Chengalpattu has reported 425 cases, 391 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 284 cases from Kancheepuram, 247 cases from Thoothukudi, 246 cases belong to Virudhunagar, 227 cases belong to Thanjavur, and 203 cases from Tenkasi.

Kanyakumari has reported 197 cases, Cuddalore has reported 193 cases, 183 cases from Coimbatore, 155 cases from Vellore, 138 cases each from Ranipet, and Dindigul, 126 cases from Tirunelveli, 121 cases belong to Thiruvannamalai, and 114 cases belong to Pudukottai. Chennai has recorded below thousand cases for the second consecutive day and the state has reported 5,043 fresh discharges through which the total tally of discharges stands at 2,32,618 so far. 

The state has recorded 118 fresh deaths which had taken the death toll to 4,808 as the death toll has been soaring for the past one week with the highest-single day rises in the deaths. Through the current reporting of 118 deaths, Tamil Nadu has reported over a hundred deaths for the sixth consecutive day. According to the press release, of these 118 deaths, 81 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals, and the rest 37 deaths were recorded at the private establishments.  

Of these 118 deaths, 20 belong to Chennai while most of the districts had reported single-digit numbers with the active contribution in the rise of the death toll. According to the data of the state health department, Tamil Nadu has reported 676 deaths in the last six deaths and Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state with the most number of deaths after Maharashtra, as per the data of the Union Health Ministry. 

With the current reporting of 986 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,08,124 cases so far of which 94,100 have been discharged while 2,290 had died of the viral infection. As of Saturday, Tamil Nadu has reported 2,90,907 cases so far of which 53,481 are active, 2,32,618 have been recovered, and 4,808 had succumbed to the virus.
