COVID-19: Chennai reports a decline in fresh cases and TN records over 100 deaths for the ninth day in a row!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,834 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday which had taken the state's tally past 3.8 lakh by reporting 3,08,649 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 33,60,450 samples through RT-PCR so far including 67,492 that were tested on Tuesday of which 5,834 had confirmed to have positive for the viral infection. These 5,834 cases include the influx of 20 people who returned to the state from various regions. Of these 5,834 cases, 3,377 are males and the rest 2,457 are female patients. 

 

The press release stated that 18 districts have crossed the tally of 100 each in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 986 cases, 388 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 362 cases from Thiruvallur, 333 cases belong to Ranipet, 330 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 324 cases belong to Coimbatore, 297 cases from Theni, 281 cases belong to Cuddalore, and 206 cases belong to Salem.

Kanyakumari has reported 192 cases, Vellore has reported 181 cases, 180 cases belong to Virudhunagar, 161 cases from Thiruvannamalai, 150 cases from Dindigul, 136 cases each from Tenkasi and Tirunelveli, 125 and 110 cases from Thanjavur and Thoothukudi respectively. The state has reported 6,005 fresh discharges which had taken the tally of total discharges to 2,50,680 so far.

The state has also recorded 118 fresh deaths taking the death toll to 5,159. Through the current reporting of 114 deaths, the state has reported over a hundred single-day deaths for the ninth consecutive day. For the past nine days, including Tuesday, the state has recorded 1,027 deaths. On August 2, the state's death toll stood at 4,132, and currently, it stands at 5,159.

According to the press release, of these 118 fresh deaths, 71 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals while the rest 47 were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 118 deaths, 23 belong to Chennai and the city has reported below thousand cases for the fifth consecutive day. With the current reporting of 986 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,11,054 cases so far of which 97,574 have been discharged and 2,350 had died of the viral infection. 

As of Tuesday - August 11, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,08,649 cases so far of which 52,810 are active, 2,50,680 have been recovered, and 5,159 had succumbed to the virus.
