COVID-19: Chennai reports a decline in fresh cases while TN's tally has crossed 5.25 lakh!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,560 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday which had taken the state's total tally to 5,25,420 so far including active, recovered, deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state's health department concerning the latest developments on the COVID-19 outbreak in the state, Tamil Nadu has tested 62,17,923 samples so far including 84,524 that were tested on Thursday of which 5,560 had confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. These 5,560 cases include the influx of five people who returned to the state from other regions - four came from Karnataka and one from Telangana. 

 

Of these 5,560 cases, 3,319 are males and the rest 2,241 are female patients. The press release stated that 19 districts had reported heavy caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 992 fresh cases, 530 cases belong to Coimbatore, 291 cases belong to Salem, 283 cases from Chengalpattu, 239 cases from Thiruvallur, and 206 belong to Cuddalore. 

Tiruppur has reported 191 cases, 187 from Kancheepuram, 169 cases from Thiruvannamalai, 155 cases from Thanjavur, 141 cases belong to Vellore, 125 cases from Villupuram, 124 cases from Dharmapuri, 118 cases each from Kanyakumari and Pudukottai, 115 cases from Trichy, 112 cases from Namakkal, 110 cases belong to Kallakurichi, and 108 cases from Thiruvarur. 

The state has reported 5,524 fresh discharges taking the tally of total discharges to 4,70,192 so far and the state has recorded 59 fresh deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 8,618 so far. According to the press release, of these 59 deaths, 36 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals, and the rest 23 were recorded at the private establishments. 

Of these 59 deaths, 12 belong to Chennai and 52 out of 59 deaths had been identified with comorbidities. Chennai has been witnessing a decline in the fresh cases and with the current reporting of 992 fresh cases, the city had recorded 1,52,567 cases so far of which 1,39,670 have been discharged and 3,023 had died of the pandemic. 

As of Thursday - September 17, Tamil Nadu has reported 5,25,420 positive cases so far of which 46,610 are active, 4,70,192 have been discharged, and 8,618 had succumbed to the viral infection.
