COVID-19: Chennai reports a spike with 1,282 fresh cases while TN's death toll keeps soaring!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,995 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday taking the state's total tally to 3,67,430 positive cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 40,62,943 samples through RT-PCR so far including 74,344 that were tested on Friday of which 5,995 had returned positive of the viral infection. These 5,995 cases include the influx of 33 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 5,995 cases, 3,630 are males and the rest 2,365 are female patients. 

 

The press release stated that 21 districts have reported over 100 cases each in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,282 cases, 430 cases from Chengalpattu, 395 cases belong to Coimbatore, 369 cases from Thiruvallur, 269 cases belong to Salem, 242 cases belong to Cuddalore, 220 cases from Kancheepuram, and 200 cases belong to Vellore. 

Ranipet has reported 178 cases, 163 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 155 cases from Kanyakumari, 129 cases each from Dindigul and Villupuram, 127 cases belong to Thoothukudi, 122 cases from Theni, 112 cases belong to Tenkasi, 110 cases belong to Trichy, 107 cases from Ramanathapuram, 103 cases from Erode, and 100 cases each from Thanjavur and Thirupathur. The state has reported 5,764 fresh discharges taking the total tally of discharges to 3,07,677 so far - five times higher than the active COVID-19 cases. 

The state has also recorded 101 fresh deaths which had taken the death toll to 6,340. According to the press release, of these 101 deaths, 65 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals, and 36 were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 101 deaths, 23 belong to Chennai and 93 out of 101 deaths had identified with the comorbidities. 

According to the state health department, through the current reporting of 101 deaths, Tamil Nadu has reported over a hundred single-day deaths for the nineteenth consecutive day, and for the past nineteen days, including Friday, the state has reported 2,208 deaths with the major contribution from Chennai and active contribution from the rest of the districts. 

With the biggest spike of 1,282 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,22,757 cases so far of which 1,07,492 have been discharged and 2,557 had died of the pandemic. As of Friday - August 21, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,67,430 cases so far of which 53,413 are active, 3,07,677 have been discharged, and 6,340 had succumbed to the viral infection.
