COVID-19: With close to 5,700 fresh cases, TN's tally has crossed 5 lakh and Chennai nears to hit 1.5 lakh!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,693 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Sunday taking the state's total tally beyond 5 lakh by reporting 5,02,759 cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department concerning the latest developments of the COVID-19 outbreak in the state, Tamil Nadu has tested 58,88,086 samples so far through RT-PCR including 84,308 that were tested on Sunday of which 5,693 had confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. These 5,693 cases include the influx of seven people who returned to the state from other regions - three from Assam, one each from West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, and Delhi. 

 

Of these 5,693 cases, 3,410 are males while the rest 2,283 are female patients. The press release stated that 21 districts from the state had reported heavy caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 994 cases, Coimbatore has reported 490 cases, Salem has reported 309 cases, Thiruvallur has reported 300 cases, 299 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 291 cases from Tiruppur, and 251 cases from Cuddalore. 

Kancheepuram has reported 189 cases, Thiruvannamalai has reported 188 cases, 154 cases belong to Nagapattinam, 151 cases from Thanjavur, 143 cases from Thiruvarur, 134 cases belong to Pudukottai, 133 cases from Erode, 130 cases from Ranipet, 128 cases from Villupuram, 126 cases each from Kallakurichi and Tirunelveli, 124 cases belong to Namakkal, 110 cases belong to Kanyakumari, and 106 cases belong to Vellore. 

The state has reported 5,717 fresh discharges taking the total tally of discharges to 4,47,366 so far. The state has also reported 74 fresh deaths through which the death toll stands at 8,381 so far. According to the press release, of these 74 deaths, 39 deaths were recorded at the private establishments and the rest 35 had reported from the government hospitals. Of these 74 deaths, 17 belong to Chennai, and 66 deaths out of 74 had been identified with comorbidities. 

With the current reporting of 994 fresh cases, Chennai has recorded 1,48,584 cases so far of which 1,35,215 have been recovered and 2976 had died of the pandemic. As of Sunday - September 13, Tamil Nadu has reported 5,02,759 positive cases so far of which 47,012 are active, 4,47,366 have been discharged, and 8,381 had succumbed to the viral infection.
