COVID-19: With the death toll of 8,800 deaths, TN's tally of total cases nears 5.50 lakh!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,344 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday taking the state's total tally to 5,47,337 positive cases so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 65,55,328 samples so far including  80,672 that were tested on Monday of which 5,344 had confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. These 5,344 cases include the influx of three people who returned to the state from other regions - one each from Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. 

 

Of these 5,344 cases, 3,260 are males and the rest 2,084 are female patients. The press release stated that 17 districts had accounted for major caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 982 fresh cases, Coimbatore has reported 648 cases, Salem has reported 295 cases, 219 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 212 cases from Thiruvallur, and 201 cases belong to Erode. 

Tiruppur has reported 161 cases, Cuddalore has reported 153 cases, 139 cases belong to Vellore, 136 cases from Thanjavur, 130 cases from Namakkal, 127 cases belong to Villupuram, 122 cases from Nilgiris, 120 cases from Thiruvarur, 117 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 108 and 105 cases belong to Thirupathur and Kallakurichi respectively. 

The state has reported 5,492 fresh discharges taking the total tally of discharges to 4,91,971 so far. The state has also reported 60 fresh deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 8,871 so far, with the highest number of deaths from Chennai, Coimbatore, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Salem, and Thiruvallur. According to the press release, of these 60 fresh deaths, 31 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals and 29 deaths were from the private establishments. 

Of these 60 deaths, 16 belong to Chennai and 57 of total 60 deaths had been identified with comorbidities. With the current reporting of 982 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,56,625 cases so far of which 1,43,680 have been discharged and 3,074 had died of the pandemic. As of Monday- September 21, Tamil Nadu has reported 5,47,337 cases so far of which 46,495 are active, 4,91,971 have been recovered, and 8,871 had succumbed to the viral infection.
