Covid-19 surges in TN Schools: 15 students and 6 teachers test positive!

At least fifteen school students and six teachers in Tamil Nadu had tested positive for the Covid-19 viral infection so far as of Monday amid the state nears to hit its first week of the school resumption. Tamil Nadu government has reopened the schools on September 1 for the students attached to Classes 9 to 12. However, the comeback of pupils to their schools after 18 months has been meeting with setbacks as the Covid-19 spread among them and teachers has become worryingly visible, alarming that the reopening has stirred a cause of concern. 

According to the state government authorities, fifteen school students and six teachers from various parts of the state have tested positive for the pandemic so far as of Monday. A majority of students who tested positive were identified that they had contracted the disease after conducting random tests at the schools while some of the students had shown symptoms. The schools which have reported multiple cases were closed while the institutions that reported fewer cases are functioning after complete sanitisation. 

Four government school students in Tiruvarur district, who were studying at different schools in Tiruvarur, Mannargudi, and Thiruthuraipoondi, have tested positive for the pandemic. A Class 12 girl student of a private CBSE School in Trichy had shown symptoms and she was sent back home and underwent testing. On Monday, the result had come positive following which the school was closed for five days from Monday. In Coimbatore, eight students from four government schools and one private school had tested positive.

According to reports, Coimbatore District Chief Education Officer N Geetha has said that all schools in the district will be functioning except the Sulthanpet government high school where three students had tested positive and the school was closed for three days from Monday. The classmates of the students who had tested positive have been instructed to stay home and attend online classes. In Pudukottai, a Class 10 girl near Karamabakudi was confirmed to contracted the disease and she was symptomatic.

The officials have said that the girl hasn't attended the school for the past three working days and the school premises will be sanitized. A student in the Neyveli, Cuddalore had tested positive on Monday and with the distressing development, a total of 15 students were tested positive for the pandemic so far as of Monday. On the front of teachers, a government school teacher in Karur was tested positive last week and two teachers of the same school in Cuddalore had tested positive, while two teachers and a headmaster of a government school had confirmed to have contracted the pandemic in Tirupur and Kallakurichi districts respectively on Monday. 

Until Sunday, six students and three teachers had tested positive and the cases are surging in the schools despite the vaccinations and Covid-19 guidelines. The rising numbers had stirred a major challenge for the government as the state is surfaced with speculations on whether the schools will be closed again. According to the state health department, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,556 fresh Covid-19 cases, 1,564 discharges, and 18 deaths on Monday. Overall, the state has recorded 26,24,234 cases so far as of Monday of which 16,256 are active, 25,72,942 have been discharged, and 35,036 had succumbed to the viral infection.
