COVID-19: Tamil Nadu adds 48 fresh cases and one more fatality to its count!

Tamil Nadu has added 48 fresh cases and one more fatality affected by Coronavirus on Wednesday and the latest reportings had increased the number of total infected cases to 738 in the state's territory so far and with the new fatality, the state's death toll currently stands at eight amid the complete lockdown and restrictions rolled out to contain the spread of the contagion.

The current numbers of positive cases include active, recovered, and deceased patients. In her daily briefing, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary has highlighted the latest developments. While addressing the reporters, she said that of the latest 48 cases, 42 persons have been tested positive for the virus through the single source and they had attended the Tablighi conference that was organized in Delhi last month. Of these 48 cases, 16 belong to Theni, seven belong to Chennai, 6 from Trichy, five from Namakkal, four each from Villupuram and Tirunelveli, and one each from Vellore, Salem, Tiruvallur, and Dindigul.

 

According to the reports, most of the positive cases in the state had linked to Jamaat Conference. Of 738, 679 people have attended the conference in Delhi. Beela Rajesh stated that a patient who was getting treated in the Vellore district had succumbed to the virus making the state mark its eighth fatality claimed by the pandemic so far. With the current numbers, Chennai has reported more cases in the state. The capital city is currently housing 156 cases and Theni district had witnessed the highest single-day rise in its territory. On Wednesday, the district has added 16 more cases to its count taking the total number of cases to 39.

The Health Secretary has further added that the state has reported with the recovery of 21 patients, including a 72-year-old male, so far. She stated that 60,739 have been kept under home quarantine while 230 have been remaining under hospital isolation. The state government has brought 34 districts under tight control to contain the spread. 

On Tuesday, the state reported with 69 fresh cases and one fatality and the total number of affected cases stood at 690. For a fortnight the state has recorded about 700 more cases to its count and of these 69, 63 had attended the conference in Delhi. According to the reports, the state has been reporting with 65 to 70 cases in an average per day since March 31st.

As of Wednesday evening, the state has reported with 738 positive cases of which 709 are active patients, 21 have been recovered and discharged while eight have succumbed to the virus. These active cases include Indians and foreign nationals and getting treated across the state.
