COVID-19: TN has crossed the tally of 27,000 while Chennai nears to hit 19,000!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 1,384 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday through which the state's tally has crossed 27,000 by reporting 27,256 so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

The current reporting of 1,384 cases has become the highest single-day rise in the state so far since the outbreak surpassing the previous tally of 1,286 cases that were reported on Wednesday. The state has been adding a thousand cases consecutively for the past few days and the biggest spikes have been exemplifying the rapid spread. By this time on May 30, the state had crossed the tally of 21,000 and in the span of five days, it has added 6000 cases to its count.

According to the official press release issued by the Tamil Nadu Health Department, the state has tested 5,44,981 samples so far including 16,447 samples- highest since the outbreak, that were tested on Thursday of which 1,384 samples returned positive for the virus. These 1,384 cases include 11 people who came to the state from other regions (five came from Maharashtra, four from Telangana, and one each from Kuwait and Kerala).

Of these 1,384 cases, 783 are males and the rest 601 are female patients and 1,072 belong to Chennai, 169 belong to Chengalpattu, 44 from Thiruvallur, eight each from Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam, Villupuram, and Virudhunagar. Seven each from Madurai, Thoothukudi, and Trichy and five belong to Thiruvannamalai.

Four each from Ranipet and Vellore, three each from Ramanathapuram, Theni, and Tirunelveli, two each from Ariyalur, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Pudukottai, Salem, and Tenkasi, and one each from Dindigul, Krishnagiri, Sivagangai. Apart from the district-wise abstract, one patient has been kept under the airport quarantine. The state has reported 585 fresh discharges through which the tally of total discharges stands at 14,901, which is more than the current active COVID-19 cases.

The state has also recorded 12 fatalities taking the death toll to 220 of which ten deceased belong to Chennai and rest two belong to Vellore and Chengalpattu respectively and eleven deceased were identified with the co-morbid conditions like Diabetes, Hypertension, and Asthma. Chennai has recorded its biggest spike by reporting more than a thousand cases for the second consecutive day.

On Wednesday, it has reported 1,012 cases and on Thursday, it has reported 1,072 cases and with the current reporting, Chennai has recorded 18,693 so far amid the lockdown and containment strategies to curb the spread. As of Thursday evening, the state has reported 27,256 positive cases so far -second highest in India after Maharashtra of which 12,132 are active - including isolation, 14,901 have been discharged, and 220 had succumbed to the virus.
