The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,990 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Wednesday taking the state's total tally to 4,39,959 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients.
According to the official press release issued by the health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 49,64,141 samples so far including 75,829 that were tested on Wednesday of which 5,990 had returned positive for the viral infection. These 5,990 cases include the influx of 28 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 5,990 cases, 3,465 are males and the rest 2,525 are female patients.
The press release stated that 18 districts had accounted for major caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,025 fresh cases, 579 cases from Coimbatore, 405 cases belong to Cuddalore, 403 cases from Salem, 390 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 285 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 224 cases from Villupuram, and 213 cases belong to Thiruvannamalai.
Vellore has reported 159 cases, 147 cases from Thanjavur, 136 cases from Dindigul, 133 cases each from Kancheepuram, and Thiruvarur, 123 cases belong to Madurai, 120 cases from Trichy, 111 cases belong to Kanyakumari, 110 cases from Tirunelveli, and 106 cases belong to Erode. The state has reported 5,891 fresh discharges which had taken the tally of discharges to 3,80,063 so far.
The state has recorded 98 fresh deaths taking the death toll to 7,516 so far. According to the press release, of these 98 deaths, 57 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals and the rest 41 were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 98 deaths, 19 belong to Chennai and 93 out of 98 deaths had been identified with comorbidities.
With the current reporting of 1,025 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,37,732 cases so far of which 1,22,407 have been discharged and 2,788 had died of the global pandemic. As of Wednesday - September 2, Tamil Nadu has reported 4,39,959 cases so far of which 52,380 are active, 3,80,063 have been discharged, and 7,516 had succumbed to the viral infection.
