COVID-19: TN reports 3,965 fresh cases with sharpest spikes outside Chennai!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 3,965 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday which had taken the state's tally past 1.34 lakh by reporting 1,34,226 cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 15,66,917 samples so far including 37,825 that were tested on Saturday of which 3,965 returned positive for the pandemic. Tamil Nadu has been doing the highest number of sample tests in India. These 3,965 cases include the influx of 58 people who returned to the state from other regions. 

 

Of these 3,965 cases, 2,410 are males and 1,555 are female patients. According to the press release, 13 districts amount for heavy caseloads in the current reporting. 1,185 cases belong to Chennai, 346 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 277 cases belong to Madurai, 237 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 175 cases belong to Thoothukudi. 

136 cases belong to Salem, 135 cases belong to Vellore, 133 cases belong to Kanyakumari, 128 cases from Trichy, 119 cases each from Kancheepuram, and Theni, 102 cases from Kallakurichi, and 94 cases belong to Virudhunagar. The state has reported 3,591 fresh discharges taking the total number of discharges to 85,915 so far. 

The state has also recorded 69 deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 1,898 so far. According to the press release, of these 69 deaths, 51 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals while the rest of 18 were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 69 deaths, 26 belong to Chennai and 61 deceased out of 69 had identified with co-morbid conditions.

Chennai has closed the current week with a decline in cases than what it had reported last week. With the current reporting of 1,185 cases, Chennai has recorded 76,158 cases so far of which 17,989 are active cases, 56,947 have been discharged while 1221 died of the viral infection. 

While Chennai had been contributing two-thirds of positive cases till last month, the major districts have been reporting the sharpest spikes with the heavy caseloads as the cases have been surging in southern districts like Madurai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Virudhungar as the never-witnessed spikes from these districts have emerged them as COVID-19 hotspots.

As of Saturday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,34,226 cases so far of which 46,410 are active, 85,915 have been recovered, and 1,898 had succumbed to the virus.
