COVID-19: TN reports 4,280 cases as the tally crossed 1.7 lakh while Chennai nears 67,000!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 4,280 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday which had taken the state's tally to 1,07,001 cases so far in its territory including the active, discharged, and deceased patients. 

Through the current reporting of 4,280 cases, the state has reported more than 4000 cases for the third consecutive day. According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 13,06,884 samples so far including 36,164 that were tested on Saturday of which 4,280 confirmed to have contracted to the virus. 

 

These 4,280 cases include 100 people who returned to Tamil Nadu from other regions. Nine districts of the state had amounted for the major contribution in the current reporting of 4,280 cases. The press release stated that 1,842 cases belong to Chennai, 352 cases belong to Madurai, 251 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 215 cases belong to the Chengalpattu district.

173 cases belong to Thiruvannamalai, 149 cases from Ramanathapuram, 134 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 104 cases belong to Ranipet, and 100 cases belong to Virudhunagar. The state has reported 2,214 fresh discharges which have taken the total discharge tally to 60,592 so far - highest than the COVID-19 active cases in the state.

The state has also recorded 65 fresh deaths taking the state's death toll to 1,450. Of these 65 deaths, 47 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals while the rest 18 were at the private establishments and 37 deceased belong to Chennai, which has reported 1,033 deaths so far - two-thirds of the state's death toll. Out of 65 deaths, 59 deaths were identified with co-morbid conditions largely diabetes and hypertension. 

With the current reporting of 1,842 cases, Chennai has recorded 66,538 cases so far amid the containment measures to curb the spread.  As of Saturday, the state has reported 1,07,001 positive cases so far of which 44,956 are active - including isolation, 60,592 have been discharged, and 1,450 had succumbed to the virus. On Saturday, the Tamil Nadu government has extended the complete lockdown in the Madurai district till July 12 owing to the rapid spread of COVID-19 cases.
