COVID-19: TN reports 4,328 fresh cases of which 3,188 cases recorded outside Chennai!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 4,328 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday which had taken the state's tally beyond 1.42 lakh cases by reporting 1,42,798 cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 16,54,008 samples so far including 44,560 - the highest number of single-day tests since the outbreak, that were tested on Monday of which 4,328 confirmed to have contracted to the virus. These 4,328 cases include the influx of 58 people who returned to Tamil Nadu from other regions including India and abroad.

 

Of these 4,328 cases, 2,576 are males while the rest 1,752 are female patients. According to the press release, 15 districts in the state account for heavy caseloads in the current reporting - 1,140 cases belong to Chennai, 464 cases belong to Madurai, 352 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 337 cases from Thiruvallur, and Chengalpattu reported 219 cases.

185 cases belong to Kanyakumari, 143 cases belong to Villupuram, 134 cases belong to Theni, 129 cases belong to Vellore, 126 cases belong to Ranipet, 122 cases belong to Thoothukudi, 118 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 101 cases from Salem, 92 and 83 from Trichy and Tiruvannamalai respectively. In the current reporting of 4,328 cases, 3,188 cases were recorded outside Chennai, which had exemplified the rapid spread of the virus across many districts.

The state has reported 3,035 fresh discharges taking the tally of the total discharges to 92,567 so far and the state has also recorded 66 fresh deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 2,032. According to the Union Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu is the fourth Indian state to have the most number of COVID-19 deaths.

According to the Tamil Nadu health department, of these 66 deaths, 50 were recorded at the government hospitals while the rest 16 were recorded at the private hospitals. Of these 66 deaths, 24 belong to Chennai and 59 deceased out of 66 had identified with co-morbid conditions. On July 1, the state's death toll stood at 1,246 and in a fortnight, the state has added 786 more deaths to its count with the steady rise of deaths outside Chennai. 

Chennai has been witnessing a decline in the number of cases since the last week as the city's graph has been descending amid the lockdown and it hasn't reported over 1,500 cases in a single day since the last week while it reported more than 2000 cases a week before. With the current reporting of 1,140 cases, Chennai has recorded 78,573 cases so far. 

However, Madurai has been emerging as the COVID-19 hotspot and with the unprecedented spike of 464 cases on Monday, the temple city has reported 6539 cases so far. On July 1, the total number of cases in Madurai was 2,858 and in a fortnight, it has added 3,681 cases to its count. Along with Madurai, districts like Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Theni, Salem, and Villupuram are the major districts that report more cases outside Chennai and its three adjacent districts.

At the current state, 20 districts in Tamil Nadu have crossed the tally of 1000 cases of which four districts -Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Madurai have crossed the tally of 6000 cases. As of Monday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,42,798 cases so far of which 48,196 are active, 92,567 have been recovered, and 2,032 had succumbed to the virus.
