COVID-19: TN reports close to 6000 fresh cases with the sharpest spikes of deaths!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,967 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday, taking the state's total tally of cases to 3,85,352 positive cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 42,76,640 samples so far including 70,023 that were tested on Monday of which 5,967 returned positive for viral infection. These 5,967 cases include the influx of 26 people who returned to the state from other regions including the rest of the states and abroad. Of these 5,967 cases, 3,611 are males and the rest 2,356 are female patients. 

The press release stated that 19 districts had accounted for major caseloads. Chennai has reported 1,273 cases, 387 cases belong to Coimbatore, 370 cases belong to Cuddalore, 320 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 306 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 273 cases from Salem, and 226 cases from Kancheepuram. 

Theni has reported 193 cases, 189 cases from Erode, 187 cases belong to Pudukottai, 159 cases belong to Vellore, 156 cases from Villupuram, 149 cases belong to Kanyakumari, 145 cases belong to Thiruvannamalai, 132 cases from Dindigul, 121 cases from Ranipet, 119 cases belong to Thanjavur, 111 cases from Thiruvarur, and 104 cases belong to Trichy. The state has reported 6,129 fresh discharges which had taken the total tally of discharges to 3,25,456 so far. 

Tamil Nadu has also recorded 97 fresh deaths taking the death toll to 6,614 so far. According to the press release, of these 97 deaths, 67 deaths were reported from the government hospitals and the rest 30 were recorded at the private establishments. Of these 97 deaths, 23 deaths belong to Chennai as the death toll has been soaring unprecedently for the current month with the biggest spikes of deaths. 

92 deaths out of 97 had identified with the comorbidities. According to the data of the state health department, for the past 22 days including Monday, the state has reported 2,482 deaths.  With the current reporting of 1,273 fresh cases, Chennai has reported 1,26,677 cases so far of which 1,10,819 have been discharged and 2,603 had died of the global pandemic. 

As of Monday - August 24, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,85,352 cases so far of which 53,282 are active, 3,25,456 have been discharged, and 6,614 had succumbed to the viral infection.
