COVID-19: TN reports the highest climb in the death toll as the state crossed 30,000!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 1,458 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday taking the state's tally past 30,000 by reporting 30,152 cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased cases. 

The current reporting of 1,458 cases has recorded as the highest single-day rise since the outbreak surpassing the previous tally of 1,438 that was reported on Friday. The state has closed the first week of the fifth phase of the lockdown by not only recording a thousand cases each day but also transcending the previous tallies, exemplifying the grounds of rapid spread.

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 5,76,695 samples so far including 16,022 that were tested on Saturday of which 1,458 returned positive for the pandemic. These 1,458 cases include 35 people who came from other regions (13 came from Maharashtra, five from Saudi Arabia, four from Delhi, three each from Karnataka and Kerala, two from Andhra Pradesh, and one each from UAE, Andaman Islands, Gujarat, Bihar, and Pondicherry).

Of these 1,458 cases, 874 are males and 584 are female patients and 1,146 cases belong to Chennai, 95 belong to Chengalpattu, 80 belong to Thiruvallur, 16 belong to Kancheepuram, 14 belong to Thoothukudi, ten belong to Kanyakumari, eight belong to Krishnagiri, seven belong to Madurai, six each from Karur, Nagapattinam, and Villupuram.

Five each from Ariyalur and Dindigul, four each from Ramanathapuram, Thiruvarur, and Virudhunagar, three each from Coimbatore, Kallakurichi, Salem, and Tiruvannamalai and two each from Ranipet, Sivagangai, Tenkasi, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, and Vellore, and one each from Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, and Pudukottai. Apart from the district-wise abstract, 12 people have been kept under the airport quarantine while three are under railway quarantine.

The state has reported 633 fresh discharges taking the total number of discharges to 16,395 and along with reporting the highest single-day spike in the number of cases, the state has also recorded the highest single-day rise in death toll by reporting 19 fresh fatalities. According to the press release, all 19 deceased belong to Chennai, and eight of them had co-morbid conditions and ten are above the age of 60. For the past six days, the state has reported over 60 deaths.

With the current reporting of 1,146 cases, Chennai has crossed the tally of 20,000 and recorded 20,993 cases so far and the city has contributed about 70% of cases and deaths in the total tally of the state. The current reporting of 1,146 cases has become the city's highest single-day spike and it has become one of the 13 worst hit Indian cities with the high and soaring caseload amid the lockdown and restrictions.

As of Saturday evening, the state has reported 30,152 positive cases so far -second highest in India after Maharashtra, of which 13,503     are active - including isolation, 16,395 have been discharged, and 251 had succumbed to the virus. The recent study carried out by Dr.MGR University has warned that Chennai's tally may hit 1,50,000 by the second week of July and it has also said that the COVID-19 cases would peak in mid-October.
