COVID-19: TN reports over 100 deaths for the twelfth day in a row amid soaring cases!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,890 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday which had taken the state's tally to 3,26,245 positive cases so far in its territory including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 35,69,453 samples so far including 70,153 that were tested on Friday of which 5,890 confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. These 5,890 cases include the influx of 28 people who returned to the state from various regions. Of these 5,890 cases, 3,518 are males and the rest 2,372 are female patients. 

 

The press release stated that 17 districts in the state had accounted for major caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1187 cases, Thiruvallur has reported 495 cases, 437 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 385 cases from Coimbatore, 367 cases from Theni, 315 cases belong to Kancheepuram, and 221 cases belong to Cuddalore. 

Salem has reported 191 cases, 178 cases each from Ranipet and Vellore, 155 cases from Pudukottai, 138 cases from Dindigul, 128 cases each from Erode, and Kanyakumari, 127 cases from Villupuram, 117 and 106 cases from Tirunelveli and Trichy respectively. The state has reported 5,556 fresh discharges which had taken the state's total tally of discharges to 2,67,015 so far. 

The state has also recorded 117 fresh COVID-19 deaths taking the death toll to 5,514 so far. According to the press release, of these 117 deaths, 83 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals, and the rest 34 deaths were recorded at the private establishments.    Of these 117 deaths, 25 deaths belong to Chennai and 105 of the total deaths had identified with the co-morbid conditions.

According to the state health department, through the current reporting of 117 deaths, Tamil Nadu has reported over a hundred single-day deaths for the twelfth consecutive day. For the past twelve days, including Friday, the state has reported 1,382 deaths. 

At the current state, with the death toll of 5,514, Tamil Nadu is the second state in India with the most number of COVID-19 deaths after Maharashtra, as per the data of the Union Health Ministry and Tamil Nadu is also the second state in the country with the most number of the COVID-19 cases. Chennai has reported over a thousand cases after seven days and with the current reporting of 1,187 cases, the city has recorded 1,14,260 cases so far of which 1,00,643 have been discharged and 2,408 had died of the viral infection. 

As of Friday - August 14, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,26,245 cases so far of which 53,716 are active, 2,67,015 have been recovered, and 5,514 had succumbed to the virus.
