COVID-19: TN reports over 5,500 fresh cases taking the total tally close to 5.40 lakh!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 5,569 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday taking the state's total tally to 5,36,477 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

According to the official press release issued by the state's health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 63,88,583 samples so far including 85,117 that were tested on Saturday of which 5,569 had returned positive for the viral infection. These 5,569 cases include the influx of 18 people who returned to the state from other regions. Of these 5,569 cases, 3,351 are males and the rest 2,218 are female patients. 

 

The press release stated that 18 districts had reported heavy caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 987 cases, Coimbatore has reported 565 cases, 293 cases from Chengalpattu, 289 cases belong to Cuddalore, 286 cases from Salem, and 282 cases belong to Thiruvallur. 

Kancheepuram has reported 175 cases, 166 cases belong to Erode, 163 cases from Tiruppur, 160 cases from Thiruvannamalai, 151 cases from Thanjavur, 146 cases from Vellore, 144 cases belong to Villupuram, 112 cases from Dharmapuri, 108 cases from Tirunelveli, 105 cases from Kanyakumari, 103 cases from Trichy, and 100 cases from Thiruvarur. 

The state has reported 5,556 fresh discharges which had taken the total tally of discharges 4,81,273 so far. The state has also recorded 66 fresh deaths, through which the death toll currently stands at 8,751 so far. According to the press release, of these 66 deaths, 36 deaths were recorded at the government hospitals and the rest 30 were from the private establishments. 

Of these 66 deaths, 56 were identified with comorbidities. With the current reporting of 987 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,54,624 cases so far of which 1,41,612 have been discharged and 3,046 had died of the pandemic. As of Saturday - September 19, Tamil Nadu has reported 5,36,477 cases so far of which 46,453 are active, 4,81,273 have been discharged, and 8,751 had succumbed to the viral infection.
