COVID-19: TN's tally is at 1.26 lakh, Chennai reports a decline while cases surge in other districts!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 4,231 positive cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday through which the state went past the tally of 1.26 lakh by reporting 1,26,581 cases so far including the active, discharged, and deceased patients. 

The current reporting of 4,231 cases has been recorded as one of the highest single-day rises in the state as it has reported more than 4000 cases for the first time this week which had seen the cases below 4000 each day. According to the press release issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 14,91,783 samples so far including 42,369 that were tested on Thursday of which 4,231 returned positive to the pandemic. 

 

The influx of people from the rest of the Indian states and abroad have also been included in the current reporting. In the positive cases of 4,231, 145 people had returned to the state from other regions. Of these 4,321 cases, 2,544 are males while the rest 1,687 are female patients. 

About 14 districts have reported with major caseloads in the current reporting. The press release stated that 1,216 cases belong to Chennai, 364 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 289 cases belong to Virudhunagar, 262 cases from Madurai, 254 cases belong to Kallakurichi, 196 cases belong to Thoothukudi, and 169 cases belong to Chengalpattu. 

110 cases belong to Tirunelveli, 98 cases belong to Coimbatore, 93 cases each from Kanyakumari and Trichy, 92 cases belong to Salem, 90 cases belong to Theni, and 87 cases from Vellore. While Chennai had been accounting for more than 50% of the single-day cases, the recent counts have been showing that the COVID-19 wave has been affecting most of the districts outside Chennai as most of the southern districts have been emerging as the hotspot for the virus spread.

According to the press release, the state has reported 3,994 fresh discharges through which the tally of the total discharge in the state currently stands at 78,161 so far. The state has also recorded 65 deaths taking the death toll to 1,765 so far. Of these 65 deaths, 43 were reported from the government hospitals while the rest 22 were recorded from the private establishments. 

Of these 65 deaths, 23 belong to Chennai and 58 deceased out of 65 were identified with comorbid conditions. According to the press release, a 25 days old female child from Tiruvannamalai has succumbed to the viral infection while getting treated at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Egmore, Chennai and the infant has become one of the fatalities that were below one year who died of COVID-19.

With the current reporting of 1,216 cases, Chennai has recorded 73,728 cases so far and the cases in Chennai have been descending for the past few days in the wake of the complete lockdown whereas Madurai has emerged as the virus epicenter in the southern district. In the last month, the temple city has recorded more than 4,000 COVID-19 cases as it has been going through the complete lockdown till July 12. 

As of Thursday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,26,581 cases so far of which 46,652 are active, 78,161 have been recovered, and 1,765 had succumbed to the virus.
